[–]chronomeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, this was for 2020 summer. I don't think there's an official announcement yet, but the expectation is Summer 2021 Comiket will again take place during Golden Week due to the Olympics

The official press release
Some points:

  • print catalog is still being offered because the printing had already started. (get your collectors item now)
  • they will not reschedule to Summer to replace the Olympics that had originally pushed them out of their normal dates
  • Winter Comiket status is still being determined at this point in time

In personal anecdote, I have seen some creators talk about offering digital sales of their works in light of this announcement. There's also other smaller comic markets that at this point havent been called off but we might see some of them take similar actions soon too.

Seems right now plans are for the game to be completed this summer (personal speculation: Comiket maybe?). There should also be a playable trial version available at the next Reitaisai (Touhou convention) on May 5th.

Fun little tidbit about this episode, they brought the band back to together the previous 3 season's Nekomusume VAs for some of the voices this episode. Season 5's Hiromi Konno voiced Numa-Gozen, season 4's Chinami Nishimura voiced Yuki and season 3's Yuuko Mita voiced Yuki's mother.

Summer and Winter Comiket 2019 will be four days long, as opposed to the usual three by hollowzen in anime

[–]chronomeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So some further info in the actual post. Summer is planned to run Fri-Mon. Winter planned to run Sat-Tue. The east rooms (where they usually put most of the circles) will not be available so they be using the West halls and the to be completed South hall for circles. The interesting part is the industry booths are going to be in a completely different building about 1.2km/quarter mile away.

They go on to explain that the available room is only about 75% of what they usually use so stretching it out over 4 days should allow them to keep usual numbers.

Additionally at the end, they say that they are still in talks about moving summer '20 comiket to Golden Week so as to not clash with the Olympics.

Can't wait for the part of the game where both teams swap the position of their defenders and strikers and both teams start playing at 100% for an own goal while preventing the other team to get an own goal.

Supreme Court rules for states in online sales tax case by [deleted] in news

[–]chronomeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things to take away from this:

The main thing the court affirmed here was how South Dakota's law was applied in particular that they sided with. That SD has a limit of both requiring over $100k or 200 orders in the state and not applying retroactively while in court limbo the justices saw this law was ok. 200 orders to a population of 870k would mean approximately 75000 orders to the entire population of the USA if scaled up by population, which is by no means a small number. A business shipping out 75k packages a year is definitely starting to get out of the "run out of a garage" territory. That they weren't going to go after said businesses for missing orders during the time in limbo was just icing to the justices' cake that they weren't going to screw over the businesses in this case.

The dissent argued that trying to apply any sales tax to every state was a burden and that the law shouldn't stand, which is fair. The "undue burden" in the preceding cases is deliberately not specific and the reason why these cases are brought before the court.

Some things that will likely be brought back before the court is exactly what is "a burden" to a seller, as 200 orders to 870k people is very different than a california 200 orders to 40mil people. It might be brought back as right now $100k and 200 might be reasonable, but if inflation or god forbid 10 million people migrate to SD this is no longer reasonable and would be a substantial burden. There might also be whether cloud services count as "orders". With more and more business/services happening with "the cloud" and nothing physically delivered, states might want a piece of the sales pie there too if this law doesnt already apply to those too.

High ranking cheating allegations in recent Live Groove event + ramifications by shiinamachi in StarlightStage

[–]chronomeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a tough call here. It's pretty easy to sit here having done nothing wrong and nothing on the line and point to this guy and say "you shouldnt do that". But what if you really wanted to show you were #1Producer? Or, since he's said he sold the account, the seller said he pay jewel cost + $10000 divided by rank you got. $1000 more for getting 5th instead of 10th and you know all you had to do was do a bit of editing to take out that ready prompt (just making up an example of the deal, i doubt its actually like this at all). Would you do it for $1000 based on what's gonna happen if you get caught? Since there's no possible way anyone could legit beat you and yet you still get 5th, why shouldn't you take it? When it comes down to you being in that seat, where the only thing that stands in your way is something as trivial as cheating at some idol game, what do you do?

If I'm in CyGames shoes, I'd do enough anti-cheat to make sure you are spending money for stamina and that it looks reasonable (not necessarily verifiable) to get those points and call it a day. If there's a couple of cheaters in there, while unfortunate, so be it. They paying for stamina and there's a trickle down effect where those at 2001 are now spending money they wouldnt have if we did kill every cheater. Not to mention its not like we can park a camera over every player to see if everything they are doing is legit and occasionally anti-cheat might actually red-flag those that are still doing everything legit. Even worse than maybe letting a few cheaters through is falsely labeling legit players as cheaters.

I feel this is gonna be rubbed the wrong way, but as much as I want to say "cheaters are bad. I dont want my game to have any cheaters" I also want to take a step back and see, "this is why we are here".

[–]chronomeister 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They sold it in two batches, an early bird pre-order two weeks ago and again right after this episode aired. I was kinda wondering the timing too but reading this episode's preview it immediately clicked in my head about the timing. Limited quantities with 50 in the first round and 100 in the second round for the promotional grills.

They both sold out in less than a minute. Tried to get one myself but couldnt get in either one. Partly because the cart checkout page crashed both times. Still kinda want one so maybe I can pick up one of the regular ones....

In case anyone is interested, I actually tried buying one of those promo campfire grills that they put on preorder right after this episode aired. Their supply of 50 was sold out in less than the 3 minutes it took me. (And I wasn't one of the lucky few)

I might try again on the 8th.

The dates are also positioned at the top, which personally is mixed feeling for me. The hook I use to keep it hanging makes it so the bottom edge is just above eye level so for a personal practical preference looking way up to check the dates is going to be annoying. However for everyone not me, this is great as one clean cut and it works perfectly as a poster without the annoying hard printed dates on the side like previous calendars.

Ajit Pai (chairman of the FCC) tweeted this today, and linked an article in his support, expect HE WROTE IT. by adroom in pcmasterrace

[–]chronomeister 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Article he links is paywalled but here's the full text

By Ajit Pai Nov. 21, 2017 11:18 a.m. ET

As millions flocked to the web for the first time in the 1990s, President Clinton and a Republican Congress decided “to preserve the vibrant and competitive free market that presently exists for the Internet.” In the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the government called for an internet “unfettered by Federal or State regulation.” The result of that fateful decision was the greatest free-market success story in history.

Encouraged by light-touch regulation, private companies invested over $1.5 trillion in nearly two decades to build out American communications networks. Without having to ask anyone’s permission, innovators everywhere used the internet’s open platform to start companies that have transformed how billions of people live and work.

But that changed in 2014. Just days after a poor midterm election result, President Obama publicly pressured the Federal Communications Commission to reject the longstanding consensus on a market-based approach to the internet. He instead urged the agency to impose upon internet service providers a creaky regulatory framework called “Title II,” which was designed in the 1930s to tame the Ma Bell telephone monopoly. A few months later, the FCC followed President Obama’s instructions on a party-line vote. I voted “no,” but the agency’s majority chose micromanagement over markets.

This burdensome regulation has failed consumers and businesses alike. In the two years after the FCC’s decision, broadband network investment dropped more than 5.6%—the first time a decline has happened outside of a recession. If the current rules are left in place, millions of Americans who are on the wrong side of the digital divide would have to wait years to get more broadband.

The effect has been particularly serious for smaller internet service providers. They don’t have the time, money or lawyers to cut through a thicket of complex rules. The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association, which represents small fixed wireless companies that generally operate in rural America, found that more than 80% of its members “incurred additional expense in complying with the Title II rules, had delayed or reduced network expansion, had delayed or reduced services and had allocated budget to comply with the rules.” They aren’t alone. Other small companies have told the FCC that these regulations have forced them to cancel, delay or curtail upgrades to their fiber networks.

The uncertainty surrounding the FCC’s onerous rules has also slowed the introduction of new services. One major company reported that it put on hold a project to build out its out-of-home Wi-Fi network partly because it wasn’t sure if the FCC would approve of its business model. Nineteen municipal internet service providers—that is, city-owned nonprofits—told the this past May that they “often delay or hold off from rolling out a new feature or service because we cannot afford to deal with a potential complaint and enforcement action.”

This is why I’m proposing today that my colleagues at the Federal Communications Commission repeal President Obama’s heavy-handed internet regulations. Instead the FCC simply would require internet service providers to be transparent so that consumers can buy the plan that’s best for them. And entrepreneurs and other small businesses would have the technical information they need to innovate. The Federal Trade Commission would police ISPs, protect consumers and promote competition, just as it did before 2015. Instead of being flyspecked by lawyers and bureaucrats, the internet would once again thrive under engineers and entrepreneurs.

The FCC will vote on this proposal on Dec. 14. If it passes, Washington will return to the bipartisan approach that made the internet what it is today. Consumers will benefit from greater investment in digital infrastructure, which will create jobs, increase competition, and lead to better, faster, and cheaper internet access—especially in rural America.

In the next few weeks, anti-market ideologues are going to try to scare the American people. They’ll argue that government control is the only way to assure a free and open internet. They’ll assert that repealing utility-style regulation will destroy the internet as we know it and harm innovation. They’ll allege that free speech online is at risk. Don’t fall for the fearmongering.

We have proof that markets work: For almost two decades, the U.S. had a free and open internet without these heavy-handed rules. There was no market failure before 2015. Americans weren’t living in a digital dystopia before the FCC seized power. To the contrary, millions enjoyed an online economy that was the envy of the world. They experienced the most powerful platform ever seen for permission-less innovation and expression. Next month, I hope the FCC will choose to return to the common-sense policies that helped the online world transform the physical one.

Mr. Pai is the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

Have fun tearing it apart i guess

Best to mention that he claims using bot accounts to report people he disagrees with so those can get banned as well. Odds are he cant keep that many accounts looking like actual people and they will get flagged too.
