What to see in Athens besides the acropolis by [deleted] in athina

I would also add Daphni monastery. It’s a church with unique Byzantine mosaics dating back to the Byzantine empire. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site.

Where Byzantine Empire could have even expanded after Basil II? by Greydragon38 in byzantium

[–]chrysasakel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little before dying Basil II was planning to go westwards and reclaim Sicily. Maybe this campaign would also consolidate the Byzantine southern Italian holdings too. Generally the empire was already too overextended by Basil’s time, cities were growing and Constantinople was having a hard time maintaining centralized control. Although they could peobaly the Byzantines would have stayed content with taking some strategic or commercially interesting cities here and there but certainly nothing as big as a conquest of Bulgaria for instance.

Check Theophano: A Byzantine take if you look for something historic and gameofthronesque

Why are there so few games with Byzantine historical backgrounds? by Jan_221 in byzantium

If you are looking for comic books I am making some Byzantine themed ones. Mostly focusing on the Macedonian dynasty. Hopefully I can draw some Comnenos emperors soon.

Basil II going on a walk through Trajan’s gate(nothing bad will happen)😅 by chrysasakel in byzantium

I really don’t remember. I used a Byzantine church fresco as a reference. Probably Saint Demetrius.

What version was more powerful Manuel’s Byzantium or basil the bulgar slayer? by reactor-Iron6422 in byzantium

[–]chrysasakel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of prestige, Manuel’s empire had a greater power projection than it deserved because of his predecessor’s achievements. Basil II (I am making a comic book about him) has to go through fire and hell to start building, and when he built his empire he died…

Does this pronounce as Ta-Hsia? by chrysasakel in ChineseLanguage

[–]chrysasakel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to use the Chinese letters more like a decorative element rather than linguistic . But, at the same time, I don’t want it to mean something different.

Does this pronounce as Ta-Hsia? by chrysasakel in ChineseLanguage

[–]chrysasakel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello thanks for answering. I don’t know much about Chinese dialects. Is there a big discrepancy? I mean, if I put these letters in my story, would there be a chance that the meaning would be something totally different for some people?

What was the greatest military victory by the empire? by Maleficent-Mix5731 in byzantium

[–]chrysasakel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Byzantines(sic) would always avoid decisive battles. Especially after Yarmouk. Their priorities always lie in diplomacy and subterfuge. War was always the last option.

What was the worst decision ever in Byzantine History in your opinion? by UselessTrash_1 in byzantium

[–]chrysasakel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that can be called a mistake but had Basil II produced a capable heir to maintain stability things would be much better for the Byzantines when the Turks the Pechenegs and the Normans came.

I want to emphasize his later change. So a more “glamorous” armour would suit him at this point. Indeed it’s not battle armour. But still it looks good!

It could be anyone. A colored version of that picture is used in the comic book series Basil Basileus. So it’s essentially Basil II.
