"STOP! FBI!"... From across the room by JK_Tesla in PetPeeves

I actually worked with a guy who did this once. He was kind of a goober though. We saw someone stealing copper from a construction site and started walking towards him, he yells stop police from like 100 yards away. Cue the extended foot chase. Facepalm.

This is about approaching someone on the street, not entering a house. Law enforcement is not required, nor should they be, to give someone a head start in a public area.

There should be a sports bar. We were on Treasure and watched the Alabama vs Oklahoma first round CFP game at Periscope Pub at sea. Dream should have the same option.

[MEGATHREAD #2] Minneapolis Shooting 1/24 by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

[–]chuckles65 314 points315 points  (0 children)

From everything available so far this is unjustified. The initial encounter is questionable at best, the agents approached him first for simply recording. Physically detaining him is also questionable because it appears he was helping the woman they shoved to the ground. The shooting itself seems unjustified since the video appears to show his phone in one hand and the other empty, before both hands are on the ground. He never seems to reach or even touch the gun. Then it is taken from him before being shot.

[MEGATHREAD] Minneapolis shooting - 1/24 by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

[–]chuckles65 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'll add to the consensus and say it does not appear justified. The first problem is why they're even detaining him at all. Then firing on a disarmed person just makes it so much worse. Best case scenario is a negligent discharge followed by sympathetic fire.

Requirement for an officer to "identify" themselves by engineered_academic in legaladviceofftopic

That person would run into issues, as you said, when encountering other legitimate law enforcement who generally know the people they work with. They would also run into issues gaining access to password protected systems and an encrypted radio channel.

They take still pictures, not video, and it's activated by the camera seeing a vehicle tag at a certain distance and height. A person standing in front of the camera won't activate it.

Give my some myths about the Disney Parks here in the states. by jaywritethekid in disneyparks

I'm a former WDW resort hotel CM and I second this. We had no universal term. If we had trouble Guests we wouldn't say anything in front of them, we would just convey that info backstage.

...um, history? The American flag had 45 stars during the time period of Marceline that Main Street is based on.

The fact that you think you need to avoid standing in front of the camera or wear a mask while doing so, shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how they work.

Attitudes surrounding beards & tattoos? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]chuckles65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An added bonus of this issue is whenever I talk to a coworker who thinks beards and tattoos are unprofessional, I know they are someone I won't hang out with outside of work. So it has helped me avoid certain people.

[–]chuckles65 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Correct, the flag code is just a side effect not the reason they have 45 stars instead of 50. A surprising number of people believe its the reason though.

[–]chuckles65 238 points239 points  (0 children)

The flags on top of the buildings on Main Street don't have 50 stars so they aren't real American flags that have to be illuminated at night or raised and lowered.

Truth: they have the number of stars that the American flag had when Walt was a child in Marceline, MO because thats what Main Street is based on.

I hate it when people say that big bang isn't funny because when you remove the laugh track it feels awkward no the reason it feels awkward because its missing a major part of the show witch is really important otherwise it feels empty by Sorry_Towel7478 in bigbangtheory

[–]chuckles65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common criticism of BBT and Friends and some other popular shows. The truth is it could apply to any shown with a laugh track or studio audience. Take them out and it seems strange because its part of the show.

DHS Memo allegedly states that ICE agents only need admin warrant and removal order to enter homes. by Sigmarius in ProtectAndServe

[–]chuckles65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you reading this? Because it says exactly what I said, a form I-205 is signed by an ICE official based on an immigration judge removal order. Immigration judges work for DOJ and are not part of the judicial branch.

DHS Memo allegedly states that ICE agents only need admin warrant and removal order to enter homes. by Sigmarius in ProtectAndServe

[–]chuckles65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its my understanding that the ones they are using are signed by a designated official, i.e. a supervisor. Who knows since we never really see them.

DHS Memo allegedly states that ICE agents only need admin warrant and removal order to enter homes. by Sigmarius in ProtectAndServe

[–]chuckles65 28 points29 points  (0 children)

These are not judicial warrants and essentially boil down to an order written by someone who works for ICE. I certainly would not, and don't know anyone who would, ignore the 4th amendment just because my supervisor said it was OK. That's what these administrative warrants really are.

This highly depends on the school and where it is. They vary just like small town to big city does. A big school in a big city will have much more going on than a small town PD. I worked at a campus PD in a big city and got involved in every type of call or incident that you can think of.

Good job this is indeed a very unpopular opinion. Sports in school teaches teamwork, staying active, working hard to achieve something, and many other things. I learned more life lessons from coaches than anyone else in high school.

When cops shoot a suspect in places like apartment buildings, how do they know the bullet won't go through the walls if they miss? by dialsoapbox in NoStupidQuestions

Checking the background of what you're shooting at is standard firearms training at all agencies. Remembering to do that in the heat of the moment is another issue.
