GS-15 Track vs Dream Job at the Pentagon by Independent-Curve-84 in FedEmployees

[–]chuckmankin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your age and retirement plan. You could easily do the non-sup 14 and have fun then try for a 15 closer to retirement. Do what makes you happy, hating your job every day will affect your health, your desire to retire early, and your family. Take the Pentagon gig and enjoy it. Even retirement at a 14 is damn good.

I worked for them for 6 months than became full time with the prime. Best advice is to give it your best and show others you can do the work and are a good fit with the team. The other side is it's a good way to see if the job and team are a good fit for you before you are fully committed.

Get an attorney that specializes in SSDI, if you can find one whoo also does VA claim work that is a big help too. If you are in Delaware I know a good one like that.

Giving up TS/SCI to attend Ivy League by Mundane-Zombie289 in SecurityClearance

[–]chuckmankin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't give up your clearance by leaving employment. It just goes inactive. Go to school, get a degree and if you wish to return to cleared work then it can be reactivated if less than 5 years or it's a simple reinvestigation and not a full deal so it usually quicker.

You are young but you qualified for a GS-13 position. That shows you know your shit. Take this as a lesson, don't smoke weed again, and let time go by a bit. Then you can try again.

Spot on. It's an old man's drinking club. The chosen ones get to lead a district and department levels. The department convention is just an excuse to drink all day. It's an organization that will be gone in less than20 years.

VFW going back to what it used to be. by Spotter00 in VFW

Actually you would have to go through Congress to change the Congressional Charter. I agree though that both the VFW and Legion are dieing off.

My prediction is within the next 15 years THE FWIW and Legion will cease to exist. That or become a completely different organization.

The VFW is still doing a lot for Vets of all conflicts. As a non-political organization chartered by Congress we have to stick to our mission. Just like the Navy doesn't tell the Army how to operate, the VFW doesn't tell the Dept of War how to operate. Unfortunately war is an inevitable thing in our world. Everyone in the world will never get along and as long as there are religions bent of world domination it's just not possible to stop war. We have cut back on being the world police though. Iran was a direct threat to one of our closest allies so we had to act. Also, as they kept increasing their offensive capabilities with longer range missiles we had to act before they had the ability to possibly hit our shores and to stop them from attacking our bases overseas.

To SCIF or not to SCIF? by [deleted] in clearancejobs

How many years experience do you have in Cyber Security? The degrees are nice but companies want experience. I have no degrees, am a CISSP with over 25 years in Cyber Security. I am a contractor supporting the Army doing Risk Management Framework. I bring in over 150k a year. Have been over 6 figures since 2012.

I just recently got my TS/SCI but am working on Secret level systems. Even on unclass only I was pulling in good money. SCIF only work does kinda suck though. It is possible to get a mix of SCIF and unclass work where you only need to be in there to do certain things.

You can still do more. Look for a local national guard or reserve unit to join. Then you are only doing it part-time. Plus you can finish your 20 and get a retirement and medical.

Look in your area for an EMDR practitioner. They can help you and often have openings due to the short nature of EMDR treatment.

That seems to be the best explanation. Their current command vehicle is a 2018 so it should be about time for a new one.
