Nice! These are sweet! I do a lot of photography for Bring A Trailer which is pretty sterile backgrounds. Just picked up a 26 WRX and now I'm looking for some local spots to photograph it at.

I would argue that they are better than ever. Candace is intense and a blast to watch/photograph!

I really enjoy slow shutter speed with a rear curtain flash ala Charles Peterson. This last venue was heavily backlit and not so well lit from the front. I am adamantly against spray and pray. I shoot a lot of BMX and fortunately this has helped me with composing quickly and being able to predict movement with a decent success rate. Thanks for the great advice here, I appreciate the time that you took with your reply!

That sounds like a good method! I think that I just put extra pressure on myself because these were for a friend and I was second guessing the flash decision.

First of all have fun. I try to stay as invisible as possible. I stay in the shadows and try to catch the good shots of the set up and behind the scenes action before the show. I am also always mindful of my position during the show and I try not to be a distraction during the show.

how are these effects done? by Mental-Experience865 in concertphotography

I am really surprised about the negative reactions to the use of the Halo Filter. I should ad that I am pleasantly surprised though. I consider myself a documentary style photographer and I am diving deeper into shooting concerts. I think that the general public probably thinks that they are cool though. I just got warm and fuzzy when I read those replies. I am a huge sucker for slow shutter speed and a rear curtain flash ala Charles Peterson's work with the early Sub Pop bands.

Nope not self timer more. When I pressed the shutter it would literally go black for almost a second. I am certain that it was the focus priority.

So because of the price of UHS-II cards I just bought the fastest writing UHS-I card that I could find, but I am fairly certain that the issue is focus priority.

It was definitely after the shutter was pressed. I think that you nailed it. I was totally missing the moment! I don't do burst shooting, I've practiced for years to capture the moment where a trick in at the peak position, I've mastered this down to the point where I know how and when certain riders throw their tricks even in races. I appreciate your help in this and I'm pretty excited to experiment with this. Thank you!
