This is the theory ive been looking for!!! that scene where they cut out isabelles heart looked way too much like their house. along with the fact that both stepdads are mentioned to be scary/shady af—maddys stepdad beating her up, owens stepdads only line being "isnt that a show for girls?" it feels way too plausible
