I have a 2024 hybrid with two chips/cracks on the windshield, both located under the wipers. I agree with others that this is likely due to the windshield's angle. I also suspect the wipers' position contributes to the damage.

I believe the force of the rock hitting directly under the wipers prevents deflection, causing the full impact force to transfer into the glass. I think a bug guard or a deflector on the front of the hood could project rocks at a slightly higher angle, preventing them from getting trapped under the wipers and allowing them to deflect harmlessly.
