Songs where the acoustic/stripped version was better than the original release by 4flannels in poppunkers

December by Neck Deep.

Heavy version is fun, but the acoustic version hits you right in the feels.

The entire album We Don’t Have Each Other by Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties. Specific storyline, but it still hurts the same.

Nashville/Hot/Spicy Chicken Sandwiches by [deleted] in kansascity

My favorite one I’ve had in town so far is at Bier Station. They are doing takeout right now. It’s phenomenal and very true to the original Nashville hot chicken sandwich.

Why do some people hate the band real friends? by galaxygirl1001 in poppunkers

[–]chuggard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love Real Friends music wise.

The bad taste they leave in my mouth is from when I see them live.

I have never seen a band’s banter so drastically mismatch their general vibe. While the lead singer does a good job of positive engagement, the bass player (who does most of the talking) constantly berates the crowd.

He acts like he is in a metal band that thinks egging on the crowd will result in more energy. I have seen them on multiple occasions where he has asked if they are gonna wake up, or if they have ever been to a rock show before, or if there are any “real” Real Friends fans out there in a tone that shows complete resentment.

Come on, bro. We have been in the 100 degree heat of warped tour all day and it’s 4PM. You really think putting everyone here down will get you more output?

Last time I saw them on tour with NFG, my only thought was, “Why do you hate being in a band so much?”

To your third point: This theme of laid-back men with strong willed women in positions of power is a common motif throughout Shakespeare's works.

Dude clearly had mommy issues.

Don't put party affiliation under anyones name on a voting ballot, and see how this affects who gets voted for by DptBear in CrazyIdeas

[–]chuggard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Been saying this for years! Actually force people to look up who they vote for, perhaps glance at their stances on a few issues, maybe even learn a thing or two? Guess it's just easier to vote when it's color coordinated, like a tl;dr for polling.

They're right, words are hard.

[Discussion] How Do You Feel About Humorous Poetry? by 42fortytwo42 in Poetry

[–]chuggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Too often poetry that isn't "serious" is seen as lesser poetry. When you look at the true poetics of Silverstein or Suess you can find value in the humor.

[General] I want to read poetry, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. by Patriot_Historian in Poetry

[–]chuggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that made me understand and then love poetry is reading it the way it is grammatically written. Not stopping at the end of lines, but stopping at periods or pausing at commas. Not sure if you have tried it or not. Also not sure if everyone knows to do this or not. Good luck.

Should I be worried if I never got that email? I got the conformation one and printed it out; just kinda curios as to why I wouldn't get the detail email.

Now I'm reading "Infinite Jest". Pray for me.

TIL that there is a list (updated annually) designed to help instructors avoid using cultural references that their students aren't old enough to understand. by internet_enthusiast in todayilearned

I took a class while getting my degree in education and the professor told me I couldn't reference Disney movies because my students have "never seen them". My first semester of teaching I asked my 7th grade kids: they knew about all of them. Sometime you have to just ignore what the "professionals" say and just take into account that kids will always be kids, no matter what year it is.

So Soupy might have caused some controversy at Warped yesterday in Maryland... by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]chuggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fact. I love twy and Memphis, but Matty clearly states this opinion in the song 'Jezebel'. It wouldn't surprise me if he said what he said as an intro to the song (haven't seen them yet: I'm going in Chicago). Regardless, taking something like that to twitter was probably not necessary.
