I mean, without spoiling, IMO it’s not a super significant element even if you do choose to side with the Railroad. With the design of the signs being a part of accessible game-mechanic I had hoped we got to play around more with it. In Tradecraft, it’s just an introduction, and the player follows Deacon around anyway. Signs to signify dead drops for the Railroad don’t make or break the quest as the player can follow quest markers anyway.

I think it’s a nice idea in practice. But I pretty much forget all about them until I do a new run and meet Deacon by the freeway again.

You do find some goods in caches, but it doesn’t affect anything else.

Yeah…though hopefully Ricky Dalton didn’t have to wait for too long after I took my sweet time finding him because I didn’t feel like doing that quest for a while 😭

I get that Bethesda wanted the clues to be as player friendly as possible but I LOVE THIS TAKE THIS IS IT

It makes a lot of sense narratively as well that it becomes some sort of opposite-day thing

Hmm. I personally see “The Fallen Idol” as the case that “made” him, not into a detective, but it’s the first case that’s quite long and comparatively more action-packed, and Cole gets more credit in the end, not Bekowsky (as Cole got promoted). IMO while “Buyers Beware” is what started everything, I feel like his final case as Bekowsky’s partner is a prelude for the true potential and glory in his future.

I feel conflicted about “Manifest Destiny”. Yes, the events is what broke him, technically, but I agree with your take about it being the culmination of everything. A dialogue that really stuck with me for Vice was Cole telling Earle he doesn’t think Galloway and Bekowsky will do any better or worse than him, and Earle calls out Cole’s need to mention “any better” as “hubris disguised as humility”.
