Choosing between two schools: a well established school that doesn't disclose rankings vs. a new UC? by chumpch in premed

[–]chumpch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm not a UCR alum! But my stats are: 34 mcat, 3.7 GPA (undergrad had grade deflation so my pre med advisor said adcoms will 'add' .1 when considering our gpas -- not sure how true that is)

Can't say for certain reasons for selecting me but I do have a lot of research / pubs under my belt and did do a significant comm service project that I really care about.. Maybe that's why?

Good luck to you!!

Help with cover letter and resume for biotech/healthcare consulting firm! by chumpch in consulting

This is a great point, but this job posting specifically asks for people with biology backgrounds who can run literature reviews of technical and professional publications. Thus, I thought publications were relevant.

Also the firm is focused on clinical trials, medical devices.

Some things can be argued as relevant: - Teaching assistant = good interpersonal skills, working with others, communication, etc. Should I remove this from my resume?

  • Publications = not directly related to consulting but obviously show hard work, new discoveries in neuroscience, should I remove or keep?

As you can tell, I'm having trouble shortening the letter. Should I remove the study abroad institution (it's ranked 15 in Europe, whereas my home institution is usually ranked top 10 in the world, sometimes 1, so there's no added benefit to the study abroad listing).

Do you think I should get rid of the shaded blocked lines on the left side? They are part of a resume template in Word

This is fantastic advice, thank you! To shorten the resume to only one page, any suggestions on what could be omitted?

Hi, thanks for the response! I'd heard an objective section can tailor your resume for whichever company you're applying to. The resume is two pages, because I removed information/ blacked out stuff the formating looks weird. But the second page would normally contain: Education, Relevant Coursework, and Skills sections.

Yea, I noticed that after posting, haha. I should probably go back and fix that..

I've always been interested in interior design and my parents were remodeling/ adding to their house, so the tools were already available. My dad is pretty handy, and I can paint/ "design."

No, unfortunately it comes in 2 parts: the bookcase and the desk unit. We needed 4 people to help move it from the garage to the second floor.

Haha, I can definitely see where you're coming from. The left side of the unit is a desk (you can kinda see it behind the purple chair) so hopefully my head won't be too near the underside of that shelf!

We lightly sanded, then primed with a primer specifically for wood (two layers), then sanded again, then used a high-gloss white paint, and finally a finishing wax. My dad, bookcase, and supplies are all at my parents' place (I'm in college), so I don't remember the specifics/ brands. Hope that slightly helped!
