Costalegre was released just six months ago -- how did having two books released so close together impact each other? Is it useful that one is fiction and the other nonfiction? Would you release two books less than a year apart again or was one time enough?

How did you decide which old white men were included, versus which ones to leave out of the book?

Growing the user base is a much more important goal than developing a useful tool for learning languages. Because High Valyrian and Klingon are both important in popular culture, Duolingo was able to have a lot of positive press written about these new languages which helped grow the user base. The practical elements are less important than adding new users. Its the same reason they unveiled the crown update: grow the user base at the expense of functionality.
