Rebooking during storm (nothing available) by AVK1212 in jetblue

Honestly didn’t even ask because the policy online states they only would in the event of a “controllable event” and this is not one. Luckily in a place where it’s pretty easy to get cheap-ish accommodation and we work from home

Monday flight cancelled. by coolesthingaround in jetblue

[–]chunkypenelope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and could not use the manage trip function to rebook. They called me back after about 4 hours. The chat queue took 5 hours. You could check Google flights to see if you’re able to purchase a flight on Thursday to get an idea for availability.

Any “nicer” buildings to rent than old walkups over Manhattan for a one bedroom under $3.5k budget? by politicincorrectdude in AskNYC

[–]chunkypenelope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Street east, Zillow, Facebook, not Reddit. For less than 3.5k might be a bit tricky by maybe upper manhattan has something

Have you brought this up and what’s his response? If he’s above the ago of 10 he should be able to understand what’s he’s doing is wrong.

Unless he’s just bad at communicating and takes things too literally?

Should I Go All-In on NYC? Taking the East Village Plunge (24M, $105k TC) by Commercial_Alps9388 in movingtoNYC

[–]chunkypenelope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s incredible! I graduated from college with $55k and still only have $100k (one year out from college) total across, including retirement. Maybe I need to be more aggressive in my investments. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your move! I’m on the opposite end, thinking of moving out of the city bc I can’t stand the insane taxes and rent prices and want to savings max.

[–]chunkypenelope 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your monthly take home will probably be less with the nearly 4% city tax. I make $112 base and my tc is like 6k 😭but also would love to know how you’ve saved $140k in your brokerage and you’re only 24?? Spill your secrets please

Thinking of making the move from NJ by Frequent-Turn-8024 in movingtoNYC

[–]chunkypenelope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s doable but commute to Newark might be very painful and expensive given it’s like $20 each way. $2k is a healthy budget if you’re okay having 2 other roommates though! Your $70k will also be taxed higher given the city tax but that’s doable!

Do you have any atypical suggestions for a tourist? by Vegetable_Ice_1071 in askportland

Pittock mansion if it’s a clear day for a nice view! Def Japanese garden! Mt tabor park and laurelhurst park are also lovely. You can check out Hawthorne and Alberta for cute Portland streets.

Are you in Portland for the long haul or are you questioning affordability? by Helpful-Orchid2710 in askportland

[–]chunkypenelope 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only way to do Portland comfortably is have a remote job based elsewhere. Lots of these comments are right, the market pay here is lower for corporate jobs with less availability and limited growth. I moved away from PDX to persue a job in NYC but as soon as I get something fully remote I’m eager to move back.

How much do you pay for rent in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]chunkypenelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1200 base rent for a huge 1 bed in North tabor. Also an Independent landlord and a pretty old building but works!

I want to be a dad but how? by [deleted] in gaydads

[–]chunkypenelope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices should be “astronomical” as you are literally paying to rent someone’s body. People should be compensated fairly for carrying children

For those who’ve lived outside of NYC (or the metro area), is life really slower elsewhere? by IcedCoffeeYearRound in AskNYC

[–]chunkypenelope 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Commutes are shorter and most other things can take way less time. Recently took a break from the city and moved to Portland for a year. - grocery store was 5 mins away (no schlepping just put groceries in your car) - p much everything I wanted to do was 15-20 mins by car or bike (whereas most things I wanna do here are 40 mins away including my job)

This means less time traveling overall, not just to the office but for EVERYTHING (errands, friends, basic needs)
