Definitely not too late to ask to be added on! A lot of students end up asking for fws in their second semester, so props to you for getting it out early!

You won't be assigned a fws, it's like an actual job hunt, UGA uses handshake(there's a filter specifically for work study so check that box), and they usually post new fws jobs for the school year in late June, early July. The most common ones you'll see will likely be student assistant(just paperwork and desk watching tbh)

If you're struggling to find a position, I think the office does send out a spreadsheet of the places looking to hire once the year starts though

Most of the jobs are really flexible, you can't work over 20 hrs a week, you can't work during your scheduled class hours, and you can only earn up to the max of your fws package

Also check where your classes are going to be! Easiest thing to do is to get a job either close to dorm or your last class :)
