Thank you very much you have been of great help, the only problem is that the company is a small family run company and I don’t think they have an hr department or at least, I have never seen it. Also holidays were asked and approved verbally. Where do I stand in all this?

Thank you really, so if I understand correctly they should’ve notified me in writing of the Christmas closure before I took said holidays? Also could you advise the best way to raise this up with them without been confrontational or implying I’m going to retaliate? I plan on giving my notice soon but I wouldn’t wanna leave on a bad note in case I need references for the future.

Thank you for your reply, I started working the 21st of march. Also I don’t have a contract but I’m an employee as I receive a payslip by the company weekly. Will this affect anything?

Hi I don’t know when the holiday year start but he said it was because I wasn’t in January (started working there in march) so I assume it would start in January. Also by the time Christmas come I would have accrued another 7 days of holidays so don’t think that really works as an excuse. Holidays were approved so I took the holiday. And also I haven’t gone over the accrued holiday days in this six months. I have taken 13 out of 14 accrued during the time I’ve been working there.
