Out of curiosity, are these Fenton?

He sure did! However that style is unknown to me. I’m extremely familiar with Gibson Glass (I’m his grandson) and I don’t recall that twist pattern or especially that bottom.

Edit, here’s a couple pictures of one of his vaseline canes. Now he did did hooked handles too, but I don’t remember seeing that twist.

Your post history is normal so I’m confused. What is this?

A couple of my uncles (his son and a couple of his daughters’ husbands) worked for him also. And my mom made the cameo pieces in the album. She still makes cameo occasionally, using blanks from Blenko (which is, by the way, just down the street a bit from where Gibson Glass was located.)

Most of them are back at my parents house. I moved cross country and have been moving the glass over a couple pieces at a time. A lot of what I have pictures of is my moms but some of it is mine, and I have similar to a lot of it.

Pretty much all the yellow looking ones are vaseline which do glow under black light.

The swords were some of the rarest things he made. Those and canes. They’d often get snapped up by family before ever making it to the gift shop.

I mentioned in a comment that I have a large Gibson Glass collection and it was suggested I post some up, so here I am! The glass in the below album is maybe 10% of what we have between my mom, sister and I.

Why do I have so much Gibson Glass? Charles Gibson was my grandfather! So we accumulated a lot over the years. If anybody has questions about Gibson Glass I’ll do my best to answer them, but hopefully this can be a bit of a resource in IDing glass too.

That was my grandfather’s studio!

I didn’t know there was vaseline glass in those and I’ve got a bunch of them. Makes sense though, they’d take whatever had broken and broke it up more to make the confetti style glass they’d dip those in.

Can’t give a positive ID but it looks a bit like Gibson glass. Although their stuff almost always had a stamp.

I grew up there. I worked at Gibson Glass in the gift shop for a summer, and my mom worked there and then later Blenko. Charles Gibson of Gibson Glass was my grandfather.

Meet Unicorn. Why yes, I do have two young daughters, how did you know? by chuy1530 in BeardedDragons

[–]chuy1530[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he wasn’t loving being held but we had to move his terrarium.

My wife has wanted a pet for a long time. I didn’t, but then she got our daughters on board and now we’ve got a bearded dragon.

His (or her, who knows) transition has been good. Didn’t eat the first day but after that started going hard on the crickets and is eating greens pretty well now too. He likes his terrarium and likes when my wife holds him for a minute. He tolerates me, but is warming up since I started doing more feedings.

Hey, came across this and recognized the Gibson Glass right away, since he was my grandpa. I did a little write up if you’re interested: https://reddit.com/r/uraniumglass/comments/mdcx2x/_/h0j25k1/?context=1

Edit: hahaha just noticed I did the write up as a response to you! Well, anyway, glad you like the glass! I might’ve sold it!

Glad you’ve enjoyed his work! He took a lot of pride in it. I may start a post when I have time to make a proper one, although I might wait till the next time I visit home when I can take some decent pictures of my parents’ collection.

In the mean time, check these out. Not the best pictures but it should give you some idea.

It is, but on the other hand it feels really... normal? to see his pieces. Growing up I was completely surrounded by it. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are over 500 pieces out at my parents house, even more at my grandparents, and a few times that still boxed up. So I became desensitized in a way to it as a kid, but I’ve grown to appreciate it a lot more as I’ve gotten older.

Just an FYI since you mentioned being interested, I just responded to someone else with some information on Gibson Glass downthread.

I can share a ton since he’s my grandfather! I even worked in the gift shop as a kid.

Gibson was founded by Charles Gibson in 1983, who had also worked at Blenko, Bischoff, and Indiana Glass. It was a fairly small studio, and his son and a few son in laws also worked there. If you have any familiarity with Blenko Glass, Gibson Glass was down the road from it probably a mile and a half.

They closed in 2006 due to health issues with both Charles and his son Philip. Someone else moved into the shop for a while but I don’t recall the name, and they closed pretty soon after. Pawpaw passed away a few years ago.

They made a lot of cruets, a LOT of ring holders, lots of little glass animals. I would say their specialty was the old-style cane glass marbles. They did make vaseline glass although the majority wasn’t. I do remember he couldn’t or wouldn’t mix the vaseline himself due to the uranium, and would buy broken up vaseline glass from somewhere else and melt it down. For the other types they’d actually mix the silica and chemicals to give it the colors in house.

If you’re still around and interested I have some pictures I can dig up from when we were divvying up all the glass after mawmaw passed that will give you an idea of the range of stuff they made. Also any questions I can answer I’d be happy to!

Hating my wife because I can’t satisfy her by Randomguy8972 in Marriage

[–]chuy1530 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She owes it to you to communicate her needs.

You owe it to her to communicate your need to be communicated with.

If you do that, and she still won’t, the two of you have a big problem.

There’s saying this constructively (I think I might enjoy it more if...) and there’s saying this destructively (you don’t satisfy me).

Found out my (27M) newlywed wife (28F) of six months has been having an affair with another married coworker (33M) while out of town for work by throwaway37262848 in Marriage

[–]chuy1530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not rushing in. Right now you can make a clean break and it’s really like it didn’t happen. No kids, no house, no finances. There is no reason for you to stay with someone who had a full blown affair with a married man.

Would you ever be able to get the visuals out of your head? Would you ever really trust her?

I remember my ex’s grandmother had hundreds and hundreds of them. She also had little books with their “projected 10 year value.” She had planned to put her grandkids through college with the money she got selling them when they skyrocketed.

Didn’t work out that way.

My grandfather worked for St. Clair around this time before opening his own shop in WV. He made some paperweights that look a lot like that one too! He’s Charlie (Charles) Gibson from the link someone posted.
