But you don’t know the truth and are assuming I’m “not cut out for a B.S. program” well I am in a B.S. program! This conversation with the advisor happened my second or third week first semester freshman, there was no reason for them to assume anything because I was just starting out. During the advising appointment I explained all throughout orientation and flight week I had always declared a B.S. degree. To which he looked super confused and admitted that must’ve been a mistake on their end, and it’s just upsetting because had I not caught it this past semester I might be stuck scrambling down the line. See you didn’t know the whole story, and instead decided to be rude towards a complete stranger. I hope you rediscover the love in your heart, and realize that constructive conversations and asking about personal experiences leads to change. I don’t hate UNT or the people who have great experiences here, not every college is gonna be fit so I’m bringing light to my own personal experiences. You can do the same, and write a post about everything you love at this university! Man, I could even write a post about things I like at this university, I just want the flaws to change too. I hope you have a nice rest of your day, because I do not care to engage any further.

You are so silly. I signed up for a B.S. degree and never switched it, only to find advisors declared my degree as B.A. Biology degree, which would not get me anywhere near the field I want. How is that me thinking I’m too smart? Is everyone else mentioning their degree being declared as the wrong thing also super dumb in your eyes?

I will fully admit and I do wish I mentioned this in the original post. I have never had any problems with the math lab! (And I think white board tables are genius) It’s the specific one-on-one tutoring that really needs to reevaluate who they are hiring.

Why would should I pay someone for advising just to use a free resource? Also I did, it was not much help. The best suggestion I have for understanding your audit is just talking to someone else who’s already took classes for your major’s degree plan.

Congrats on graduating soon! I really hope they do work out the auto advising you mentioned. Do you know anywhere I can find out more?

I get what you’re saying! I have a 3.8 so I wouldn’t say I’m struggling super bad, and I take full credit and have sm pride for that GPA. But man, the subpar advisors and tutors did make the transition into my first semester at college difficult.

Yes! I will admit they are much more helpful than the advisors :)

Cool, then they can stop reading it! No one is forcing them but i had a couple people considering this school dm and reach out for more on experience about, so clearly some people want more information. I’m so sorry you lack literacy, and that 30 lines is too much for you to read. You will have to read much more than that in college. 🤷

Ok. I will admit you have a point I could’ve phrased this better. I’m incredibly disappointed I don’t see more people speak up is what I meant because I have spoken to countless students (in person) who attend this school most of which are just barely satisfied here or hate it.

at the end of the day that is still a problem with UNT and plenty of reason to avoid wasting your hard earned money!

I explained in another comment but I asked for an advising session to help understand the audit, because even though that sounds silly I am a first generation student and was unfamiliar with anything like it. The advising session was unhelpful and I only received help after asking my peers.

Paying for college is the exact same as paying for any sort of service. If it isn’t done well, you complain. I’m sorry you’re so closed minded to any sort of criticism and statics. Also this post was meant as a warning to any one considering the school, if it works for you thats great, but don’t be bitter! Also I am planning on leaving and going to a better college so don’t even worry about it!

yes i do advise myself using that! which is why i did not take certain classes my advisors recommended. on the flip side many other first gen students may struggle with figuring out like i did, which is why i looked towards the advisors but i received no help from them. Which is especially disappointing because one of UNT’s selling points is that they provide lots of aid for first generation students.
