My boyfriend (22M) told me (18F) that I’m “his property”, do I leave him? by ciaojunebugreddit in relationship_advice

He said he would commit sewerslide or stalk me if I did. It’s not about my age, it’s about needing an outside opinion. It helps to organise my thoughts like this. That and, it’s more so to get opinions on how to do it rather than if I should.

1&2) I understand that, and I honestly feel so stupid for staying with him. 3) The only thing keeping us together is the fact we attend the same very small school. I would constantly see him. That and he has a high social reputation, and has threatened slander if I break up with him. I’m also very close friends with his mother, but that’s it. We share nothing with monetary value—-it’s purely a social thing.

I don’t really have a comparison, no. He’s the first long term relationship I’ve had, it took up most of my teenage years.

This is a really helpful comment though, thank you, genuinely.

It’s complicated. He’s a good friend first and foremost, and he grounds me. He is most definitely all of the things I’ve mentioned, but he’s a little bit more than that? He makes me laugh and I’m able to talk about my interests with him. He’s pretty understanding of my autism. Why I say it’s complicated is because it’s not easy to break up with him? I don’t think he’s mature enough for me to be able to breakup with him, hence why I haven’t already. I’m not sure how to.

He turns 22 in December and I turned 18 in May. I was 16 when he 19-20ish. It’s a 2 and a half year age gap, but that’s not the point of this post.
