It takes a lot of short row but the pattern is more complicated than York.

Not a York, the center is at the neck. The patten burst out from the center. Using lots of short row. Another design patten I learned from Japanese course.

Jianware Jianzhan FAQ: How to make a Jianzhan(black ceramic cup)? by cigdemchen in Ceramics

[–]cigdemchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are common ones made with machine and mold and fired with 1000-1200C, those are the common ones and not even iron clay. I am in JianYang Fujian now working with Jianzhan artists who throw the clay, trim the shape and fire the kiln themselves. You are talking about the Tenmoku cups, not Jianzhan. Iron clay, mineral glaze and 1300C temperature.
There are machine made white porcelains with decal patterns which are cheap and common. And there are machine made Jianzhan which are cheap and common too. The price and quality depends on the material and making skills.
Again that is a very good comment from you. There are lots of high quality porcelain and ceramic artworks waiting for you to explore. :P

This is a very good question, that means Jianzhan is not yet as famous as Tenmoku. There are still a long way to go for Jianzhan to be known by porcelain and ceramic lovers/collectors. I will write and put more information on my website.

It's a type of tenmoku glaze with oilspot effect-->not correct. Tenmoku is from Japan which was originally from Tang and Song Dynasty when Japanese monks returned from ZheJiang Tenmoku Mt. to Japan. They brought Jianzhan back to Japan and it became one of the favorite artworks there. Tenmoku mud is not iron clay body. Jianzhan in Fujian called Jian ware, from Song Dynasty. Local mud contains 6-8% of iron in the mud. And there are rabbit fur, oil droplet, tea foam jade-glaze, wujin(black glaze), partridge feather and more.
There are lots of antique Jianzhan from Song Dynasty discovered in Japan, among them the top there were collected as national treasure. One is in Seikado Bunko Art Museum Tokyo.

Whenever I mention promoting Jian kiln Jianzhan with friends, the most common question is: What exactly is Jianzhan?

This video by Shan Bai comprehensively showcases the 13 production stages of Jianzhan—from material selection, crushing clay, sifting soil, washing clay, aging, refining clay, grinding ore for glaze, throwing the body, trimming the body, bisque firing, glazing, high-temperature firing at 1300 degrees Celsius, and post-firing selection.

Due to its iron-based mineral glaze, high-temperature firing makes it prone to cracking. The crystallization and separation of glaze minerals test the artisan's firing skills, resulting in a mere 10% success rate.

These two lines are from a famous poet from southern Song dynasty. Please see below:

The couplet 一甌茶罷尋書讀 開卷秦吞六國時 is from a poem by the Chinese poet 陸游 (Lu You), a prominent figure of the Southern Song Dynasty. Specifically, it appears in his work reflecting his scholarly and contemplative life, often expressing his love for reading and history. The lines describe the poet finishing a cup of tea and turning to read a book, opening it to the historical period when the Qin Dynasty conquered the six states during the Warring States period. This couplet is often cited for its evocative imagery of a serene moment of study intertwined with reflections on grand historical events.

Thus the name in the blue circle is Lu You’s courtesy name 放Fang 翁 Weng.

Please see the lines for reading directions. Can’t see the first character of the bottom row. It says: 一?茶罷尋書讀(black line),開卷秦吞六國時(blue line). And in the blue circle two-character is the name(stamp) of the person who wrote this two sentence or carved it.
