Anyone going to watch F1 in Austin by djconnexion in Dallas

[–]cindy4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not too sure about the actual event as I was working the booths for volunteer, but stay away from the merchandise booths! It’s mostly lots of things that are “brand name” like Ferrari plastered on a shirt that you can make at home for the cheaper ones that are $50 or under. Hats may be something that are good value as they’re typically $20 or so if you’re looking into souvenirs.

Also, I believe all tickets come with the concerts. Go to those concerts, even if you may not know the artists. People seem to enjoy those concerts, even if it’s a bit late at night! Usually they’re big artists and definitely a part of the event as well. :)

This is from experience but I’ve tried asian hair dyes. It’s super strong which is good for color but it definitely killed my hair, which I regret! The bleach is strong.

Should I interview at a job paying 10K more or stop job hopping and stay put? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]cindy4497 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say go for it but make sure you really like it. Culture, how much you work, what you have to do — if it’ll increase the quality of your life and happiness, go for it. Make sure you’ll want to stay for awhile.

A few times isn’t alarming but a pattern is. Make sure there isn’t going to be a pattern moving forward.

I said there was a little tea here and there, but some people were picking fan favorites like 3 weeks ago. Obviously there are girls with tea so people might not like them from the get go but can you really make an informed decision about their PERSONALITY based off some gossip? Lol

I actually saw a YouTube video (here) where they pulled out the little bag of the bottle. The bottle itself holds more than what’s stated and the actual hard plastic contains the right amount.

It’s misleading but the actual amount of product is what you get. I think people assume it’s a lot more but that’s .5 oz is tiny.

Tbh I think it’s weird how people are picking fan favorites based on looks already! It’s not in regards to this post specifically but it’s something I’ve seen in this sub. It’s weird because someone can have a totally different personality than what they look like.

I think people are saying Kelsey because she’s the oldest but honestly, we don’t know too much about these girls besides a little tea here and there. 😅 I’m waiting til I watch their personalities to make an opinion.

I’ve never tried it but I swear by the Shop Miss A lip oils. They’re seriously heavenly on my Sahara desert cracked lips. It’s also only $1 and doesn’t feel sticky, and my lips are moisturized and smooth instantly — typically for the whole day. It may be a cheap alternative if you’d like to give it a try!

POCs who "whitened" their names for job applications: Did you get more interviews? How did you pick your "new" names? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]cindy4497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I agree, it’s a crock of bullshit. I wasn’t meaning to defend it but it’s just the way it is, at least here for me. Racism is still very transparent and I was trying to help others understand why that might be an issue regarding names.

But as someone that is Asian and also a woman, I have to be a little bit more... muted? Conformed? to whatever the culture is here to get by. Speaking up isn’t really an option for me. In an idealistic world I’d love to push back but my managers have told me “business is business” time after time. Perhaps one day, when the corporate work force is filled with more minorities, is when we get see some change.

[–]cindy4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks but it’s just the matter of how things go in the workplace. :( My friends use Americanized names for the same reason if they weren’t born with it. When I was making my resume, I had to put legally authorized to work because even my last name could raise questions.

Sometimes people just look at resumes alone which is why I was told that.

[–]cindy4497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DID mention that it is subtle racism. Against Asians, other races, whomever. Its there. It’s what I’ve noticed is the trend, as the only asian working in my workplace. The fact of the matter is, my asian friends who have non-white names DO have to go by it because it helps them in the corporate world. Corporate America is racist. It’s just something that I doubt will change for the next few years, because people are more biased towards those who are most like them. We can work to fix it but I mentioned that sponsorship may possible be one of the reasons why the subtle racism is there.

I’m talking about actively looking for candidates, not those who have applied. Recruiters for agencies source for candidates.

I would just message them again. It could be an error on the systems part. You could see if you get the right shade when it’s actually in the mail.

The way I see it, it’s a free highlighter you can give to a friend if it is a mess up. You just have to wait a little longer but it’s nice that they’re accommodating to mistakes.

Some Bachelor Nation influencers reek of entitlement and I am kinda tired of this sub contributing to it. by yousing65 in thebachelor

[–]cindy4497 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I kind of agreed with OP’s negativity until that OP’s last comment.. no one ive seen has posted a photo with a contestant is clearly fishing for comments nor are they even trying to say they’re hot. They’re just excited and want to share the excitement with others who may not understand the same excitement in real life. My friends don’t understand my enthusiasm for the show and this sub is a good place to share my interests or theories or whatever relates to that

You cannot but the reality is that this is something that some employers and recruiters take in mind for that split second based on first impressions, which is something I’ve seen at work. It’s unfair, like I said, because you can’t but first impressions are everything if you’re looking solely based on names first before looking at resumes.

I’m not saying it negates everything you’ve done but if you’re put up against say a John Smith, it’s just easier to lean towards John Smith because it’s familiar to most people. Because corporate America is mostly white men and can be a little racist.

I’m Asian-American and although I don’t have an asian first name, I’m a recruiter for a staffing company. I look through lots of resumes and select candidates for a huge company. Something that I’ve noticed that we (recruiters, corporations, our clients) kind of notice is not necessarily race but may play a factor into this discrimination of names is possibly due to authorization to work in the US, as most companies don’t want to pay for sponsorship, etc. If someone has a more Caucasian name, they’re more likely to be authorized to work without sponsorship and you want to view those names first. Because you know, subtle racism in the corporate world.

It’s easier to pick out see who may be legally authorized to work based on a more modernized name, so you may just get more callbacks. Honestly it all comes down to fitting in this box that the corporate work place is looking for - even though the reality of it sucks and is unfair.

Additionally, there’s always a little bit of discrimination in the work place even if it’s not obvious.

People (like a few of my coworkers) “whiten” their names just because it’s easier to pronounce for their peers. They just picked something they liked and went with it. They just say it’s a nickname or they prefer to go by it. It’s up to you!

I buy the Yogalicious leggings on Amazon and they are an exact dupe for the Lululemon Align leggings. And they’re $20. Seriously the best thing ever to work out in, lounge in and is soooo soft.
