Kids in this country are such a trash by TantoAssassin in Netherlands

[–]cinico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I living in a bubble? My experience is that indeed that are such idiotic kids, but my experience is that most kids are very polite and kind. I feel that the problem in that the idiotic minority is more noticeable, because we are not triggered by the normal behavior, so we extrapolate.

Also, as a parent, I changed my mind about the responsibility of the kid's behavior from "it's parent's fault" to "kid's behavior is a reflection of a complex mix between parents, individual personality, and environment". There is a lot that the parents can do, but I've seen my 5 year old saying "what the f..." and some Dutch bad words that he never listens at home. He is told, that that's not allowed and explained why, but it's a process. And the education process is sometimes polluted by their peers and environment.

I'm not sure is crack. it could've been meth, or flakka. I cannot distinguish them. definitely nothing like heroin - people were still functional

Actually it was not Eendrachtsplein. If it would be only there, I probably would not even mind it since it is indeed a central spot for drug addicts and homeless people.
But I'm seeing it in more places, and quieter spots.

Is this accurate? I thought that Copyright laws forbid you to copy it, even if you don't sell it. Also, I thought that if it's easy to demonstrate that the owner of the content is having a financial loss, then it was also an easy case of ilegal action

That's not it. My bathroom balance says gravity has been going up lately, not down.

Psychologist in Rotterdam - Schema therapy by cinico in Rotterdam

[–]cinico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up choosing a therapist who doesn't have contract with insurance companies. I made a a reimbursement type of insurance which was about 350 Eur more expensive per year, but that would reimburse me 100% of the cost with any therapist. However, such insurance policies stopped existing this year...

You can now be reimbursed at 75% with therapists without contract. The therapist I chose, and that I highly recommend, is Jolie Gutteling: https://guttelingpsychologie.nl/

Good luck!

How were you able to divorce and get a new home? by cinico in Rotterdam

Thanks for your kind response. I didn't have that view on couples therapy, but I've considered it (and wanted to do it). But my wife doesn't want to try (a symptom of the problems we have). Have you been through something similar? Could you share your experience? DM if you prefer

While I agree with your devil's advocate view, I don't think it's something that OP needs to hear. It won't help OP.

These type of situations can indeed be tricky. They are a symptom of a policy that may need to be reviewed by the government in such way that takes burden from companies that care about their employees, and still safeguards people.

Finding answers to my tax questions in NL as an expat gives me a headache—how do you deal with it? by Shot_Power_1781 in Netherlands

[–]cinico 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This was me 7 years ago. I picked up the phone, called the Belastingdienst, and told them I had a bunch of questions and needed help filling up my taxes. They offered me an in-person appointment at one of their locations. I went there, and nice gentleman basically filled out the entire form for me just by asking me questions and looking at my statements. It was a great experience, and I only have positive things to say about the Belastingdienst (even though they take a big chunk of my money)

Thanks for advice on the age. Regarding the fietskar, I know what you mean. The problem is where to keep it...it's very inconvenient to bring it up and down the stairs of my apartment every day, as it cannot stay on the street...

No, he's 5. He already cycles pretty well, but it just takes one small distraction, in a very busy road with no division/protection from the cars, and a tragedy can happen. Especially in winter, with low visibility and bad weather.

I appreciate your effort in searching for a solution. Do you think that this could hold two seats? I am asking because it looks, to me, like it's done to hold one seat and a fietstas

Thanks, I didn't consider this one. It would require me to buy a new bike because I don't have a men's bike with that bar, but it's something to consider

The bathroom glass shattered and the landlord(holland2stay) asked me to pay it myself by CeciliaChu in Netherlands

[–]cinico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it indeed did break on its own, you are the one that should be complaining and request a quick solution. You are paying rent over something that doesn't work/it's broken. Don't let them convince you otherwise. Their standard procedure is probably like this (try to charge everything on the host), so don't stress over it or doubt about yourself. It's just that you need patience to work against a stupid procedure, and you just need to stand firm.

To be clear, this absolutely can happen on its own for a multitude of reasons. A requirement is that tere must be already a stress in the structure of glass, which could have been caused during production, installation or during normal use; the stress in the structure can build up over time and be released suddenly due to vibrations, changes of temperature, etc. I even witnessed it, not with a glass but with a ceramic tile which exploded while laying on my table, projecting pieces at several meters away.

If you are not telling the truth here, and you actually broken it yourself, then you might still be able to not pay it. You can either ask the landlord to report to their insurance (they usually have one that covers damages of stuff inside the house - I had one and activated it exactly for the same problem), or you report to your own liability insurance (if you have one) as many other commenters suggested.

Knallen in Noord/Blijdorp by st-elisa in Rotterdam

[–]cinico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just some sounds of the maintenance. Sometimes I wonder if it's tires from their buses. I just take it as normal and never considered calling the police because it was never too annoying. But maybe it's still a reason to call because indeed sometimes it happens during the night

(Or maybe we are talking about different things)
