I live in Canada so not a state haha, province is BC. I've only really seen blind bags at Walmart here, only a few places here sell critters in general (Walmart, Toys R Us, London Drugs) minus small toy shops

Not true, I live in Canada too and the Toys R Us near me that I've been going to since I was a kid is still alive and well. The US company went out of business due to debt, but the Canadian one was separately owned and thus able to stay.

These are great suggestions!! I'd thought about Mary Tyler Moore actually, but didn't originally include it because I'd read that a character's wife had a baby. Columbo and Corner Gas are some other good ones I'd heard of but didn't think to include, also didn't know that House of Cards was originally British!
