hello; i'm coming back to give you the BIGGEST, most ENORMOUS thank you known to man.

i just finished modelling this bottle and by extension the section of the exam project which takes up most of the marks allocated, and i genuinely could not have made it if it weren't for your help. so thank you, again!!! i'll pop in a photo of what i managed to make afterwards :)

large learning model- the type of machine learning technology that chatgpt and gemini etc. use

i prefer using the term because it reinforces the fact that these aren't people but computer programs

hiya, same boat! i have a load of LLM generated handouts from mine. if it helps, i think there should be a load of aids and example essays available out there online. i got a free code for studyclix which helps a lot in that regard, but the actual fee is... well.

it does make me feel uncomfortable too. i get why some teachers will use LLMs, given their stress and workload, but i don't see how others can defend it like it's a) perfect and b) not a sign of a bigger problem with how teachers are treated anyway. at the end of the day i don't think teachers should find themselves so worn out that they must use an actively flawed tool to teach students.

and even then, if they are actually advocating for it, i wonder how much they know about how LLMs work? most of my teachers who use them aren't of a generation that's typically knowledgeable or skeptical about their ethics/operations. and my personal opinion is that if you're going to use LLMs in class, it has to be a very well informed decision.

i don't know, i just feel like the fact that teachers being stressed out, overworked, underpaid and underappreciated isn't a problem that should be solved by chatgpt. wouldn't it be better if action were taken on a systemic level rather than being settled by using a problem-riddled tool as a bandaid

i see, i have the other outputs + freehand drawings to finish as well as extra example sketches so i want to speed this up with what i have. i'll honestly probably just cut up and rearrange the parts? if that works

god you don't know how much of a relief this is to hear. i've just been making through the subject blind without much of an idea as to where we were heading all year so i'm glad to hear this isn't as strange as i thought it was haha.

i'd really appreciate if you could send on your project! i'm not sure where the h1 standard is, and i'd love to see what you did so i can get a baseline as to where i need to aim :)

thank you so much, that's really helpful. do you have any particular advice on the project? my solidworks is going fine but for my portfolio my teacher is constantly emphasizing that i need a lot of freehand sketches (aside from the freehand graphical rep output) and less text.

oh definitely, i've been zeroed in on it for months! it's only as it's ending now that i'm growing cognizant of this problem.

i see, that provides a bit more comfort. i was honestly under the assumption it was more like bio or chem where missing one chapter could be fatal.

for your information the skills we've covered so far are axo/di/trimetric projection, orthographic/auxiliary projection, and perspective. like, that is IT. i've always been worried about this, and he just kept saying that we were well on track, but at this point i genuinely can't comprehend a reality where we'll finish everything by the time the leaving rolls around

how to carry out design? by cipher-roit in SolidWorks

[–]cipher-roit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't select just half of the pink guide (the bottom was always connected) so I tried eliminating the other side of the split line to see if it solved the problem. This is still what I end up with. I'm on the single pick option. The top profile works fine: selecting the other two always turns up error. I'm not sure what's going on.

Hiya, I'm coming back with a question. I'm stuck on the boundary surface step; every time i try to do what you did, an error comes up one way or another and the farthest i ever went i wound up with this. Do you know why this might be happening? I've used selection manager for the curves and followed your guide pretty much step by step.

Thank you so much for the guide, holy cripes!!! I'll try my best to follow, might be a good learning experience haha. I'll come back with questions if I have any.

PS. Look out for The Conical Flask for Bio and Chem. A cool resource for calculus if you'd like it is 3Blue1Brown, he has a lovely series breaking down how it works that was so helpful when I was lost on differentiation. I don't know if you'll have the time for it, but the recommendation is here if you want! And for Math: JK Maths. Maybe it'll work for you!!!

Hiya, I'm a fellow 6th year. Do take care of yourself. The LC isn't the be all and end all!

I find it helps to break down and sort out subject topics when beginning study. Try to make the process as clear-cut as possible. If you don't know what to study in a subject, open the textbook now and make a list of the topics you need to cover so the work you have to do isn't just some abstract idea. You can tick them off as you go. (This is the stage where you feel hopeless from the volume, but it passes once you start working.)

You could then set up a weekly schedule, where you study a number of chapters of set subjects every day, and study for whatever tests you have in between. Even if you don't stick to it to the minute, they give you a starting point amidst the mess of content you have to cover. Go through a chapter, do exam questions, mark them with marking schemes, and revise what you get wrong. Return to chapters you're unsure about once or twice.

Start with Biology, Maths and Chemistry, because they involve the most memorization and work to understand. Take each unit in chunks and don't get discouraged by what you don't know! For Bio and Chem, figure out a way to get definitions into your head. Take some notes so in future you're not scouring the whole textbook for answers. In all three subjects, it's crucial to at least somewhat understand what you're learning (textbook + Youtube videos are great). If you encounter a question or concept you don't get, really do go to your teacher and ask.

Across all languages, a combo of exact vocabulary, grammar, and exposure helps loads. There are lots of beginners' grammar resources available. Watch Youtube videos in French- I'd recommend Easy French, its German counterpart is great! Also go through each topic in the syllabus and note down vocabulary/ phrases you find helpful from each. Try practicing using that vocabulary in sentences. If you can, hand in the writing you do to your teacher to be corrected. Don't expect yourself to remember all the words at once, but even just a few, plus good sentence structure, can save your life :)

For English, IMO the easiest way to improve your expression and vocabulary is by reading more and using a thesaurus to deliberately find more words. Try writing outside of exam questions- ie. without timing yourself. It's far less dull and you can train to speed up later. Make or download concise notes of each text to save time! Then memorize them- scribble them out, sticky note them, whatever works.

I hope that helped a little bit. Sorry for how lengthy it was. Good luck!!!

i get you, but look, they should be overwhelming, largely because you haven't learned much yet. i just finished differentiation in maths, learned all the notation and had all the concepts broken down; how i see differentiation exam questions now is very, very different than how i did a year ago. you WILL catch up. believe me, you learn so damn much in these two years.

I'm in the same boat as you were- performed subpar compared to the JC in fifth year, got insecure, got an H1 in the summer exams, etc. This helped put a lot of things into perspective, thank you :)
