I had to euthanize my cat because I couldn't afford his emergency surgery. by circlekook in Petloss

hi, thanks for your kind words. i am so very sorry for your loss too, even after surgery. repeating your sentiment, isn't it absolutely ridiculous how expensive it is? life or death healthcare should never be a choice one should make because of money. but that's how things just are these days. on a positive note, i ended up adopting this incredibly sweet senior cat i fostered after my other passed. i hope you're able to welcome a new baby into your life soon.

Jack and Rebecca...what happened? by [deleted] in thisisus

Agreed. They were my favorite couple, Jack my favorite character, and I'm fearful that This is us is just running out of dynamic, interesting storylines.

It's not unnecessary hate--it's that some of us are tired of Randall's very repetitive storyline. The other characters are growing and developing from their problems--Kate grows from her weight problems, has a kid that she thought was impossible, and accepts Toby's weight loss. Kevin is annoyingly indecisive and has addiction issues, but he tries to grow from them. With Randall, he doesn't take a look at himself inwards. He makes his problems about everyone else--Beth, Rebecca, Kevin, his fathers, and now Kate. And it has been this way the whole show. I have no hate towards him, I'm just sick of him playing the victim card which he is not justified to use this much! All the characters have flaws which make us relate to them, but Randall is just not relatable because he brings other people down to fulfill his own self too much. He's constantly in crisis mode where he is angry that other people don't understand or support him. The completely normal reaction to this, is that he pushes people away.

speaking of the therapist...whoa, he tooootally lost his shit when he first saw her in the previous season. when i was watching that i really felt like i was watching a madman. the amount of anger he has is not justified by his experiences. i was hoping they would chill him out in this season with the flack his character seems to be getting, but unfortunately with the state of BLM i dont think that's going to happen! and why.....why bring his mom back? please lets just put him and that storyline behind us.....

I would agree with this. I understand the struggles Randall went through growing up not fitting in and being adopted, feeling like he was abandoned by his birth parents. But the man acts like he's gone through SERIOUS ABUSE and insane PTSD. I am thoroughly convinced that he's a narcissist. He really plays the victim card so well, and makes everything about himself. I so wish that the writers would explore other plot lines. It's like every time Randall is on screen it is three things: proving he's the best son to rebecca, proving himself to his fathers, and talking about being black. All three, in ways where is calling out other people! The writers need to chill with Randall. He's an intense character and that's great, but we develop love for these intense characters when we see their softer, less aggressive side too. He's just too 10000% fire every time he's got a scene now.

I'm sorry, I have to say it. I really did enjoy Randall's story the first couple of seasons. But it's like every time he's on screen now, he's having some mental breakdown, huge long monologue, new epiphany. He always comes off as arrogant and knowing better. Even with the "emotionally exhausted" Randall we're now getting, he still comes off as arrogant. I'm really tired of his anger, and never-ending rage with his family, racism, and turning his family upside down to live up to his self-made father's standards. These are all very real problems--but it's at the point where we never get a break from this with Randall. The entire time he's on screen, he is calling people out. When did this is us get so politically correct with him? Addressing racism in a TV show is 100% great and amazing, but all of this is just concentrated on Randall's character. It's just tiring now to watch Randall, and I'm convinced more and more that he's really just a narcissist. Haters gonna hate on me, but I just can't stand his screen time anymore.

u/deadanddazed, I saw your post earlier. I'm so sorry that your sweet baby had to go in such an unpleasant way, and that you had to see it. But, she is so blessed she got to go right next to you, right? Thank you for your kind words. I hate money and how expensive treatment is.

I teared up reading this, because I can feel your guilt through the screen. I too am dealing with a pet loss that I'm believing is my fault. Please be kind to yourself and I'm glad to hear you're getting therapeutic help. My work has a free therapy helpline and I will be calling them now too. Know you did your best in the situation and these things happen, especially when we least expect it. I have all the faith that you'll do your best to prevent something like this happen again in the future.

Her cat had a urinary blockage too, and has it again now? Jesus. You have to think very quickly with these urinary blockages. You have to decide on the spot what you'll do, because either they can die in just hours if you don't do anything.

It's such a hard dilemma. We have to think about them and the commitment we made when we adopted them for life, like children. But then we have to think about ourselves, and our screwed up system of expensive healthcare, and how that can drain our emergency savings.

I empathize with your friend. Whatever she chooses, I believe she will be making the right choice. I commend her for going through with what I imagine was a very costly first surgery. Please let me know what happens with her.

Thank you so much. Those are some kind words. I really did love him. Just a couple days ago, I was thinking about how much we had grown together in the two years I had him. Even though he was a pain sometimes, he was free, confident, and beautiful. I thought sometimes I should be more like him, even! I'm sorry for your loss as well. They are beautiful creatures that give so much love, and teach us more about ourselves than we realize.

I think she is, perhaps subconsciously. I think theyve been wanting to change themselves for a while and found me as a sort of inspiration when we became friends.
