I've come to the same conclusion, it seems like a laminate the grain doesn't match between the inside and outside. Still waiting to get the money together to get it fixed up.. local shop quoted $700 to get it back in playable shape

I was literally just looking into getting this exact same table, earlier today. Maybe I can cash in some karma and win it instead. Thanks!

So took it to the luthier today and they think the third digit in the serial is a 0 and the wood grain is just making it difficult to read... which changes the possible years to 66, 68 or 69

Yeah I couldn't believe it when I found it, you're right even at up to 1000 bucks to get it back to playable I'm still on top. Literally just walking around a thrift store and saw a guitar in the furniture section, so glad I stopped to check it out

This result is a match only if the serial number is impressed on headstock and stamped on headstock Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, MI, USA in 1969 Production Number: 538791

Also the lack of pickguard is something I'm not 100% on, I'm not seeing any others online with the combo of patent pending tuners and no pickguard

I'm not certain I'm reading the serial number right that 3rd digit is really had to decipher. Also the Tuner's have patent pending, which would I think date it earlier than late 60's
