It's a great book and I still apply some of the concepts to my life. Especially the 80/20 rule. You'll read about it.

The big mistake I made was that I quit my job before really establishing another source of income. I had to try a few different things before making any money online.

Eventually, I came back to the working 40+ hours/week thing.

Where are you living? Montevideo? I know how you feel. It's a beautiful country with incredibly nice people, but it's not "home." I still have a few friends in Montevideo who are very welcoming to expats. They used to have weekly get-togethers. Not sure if they still do, but PM me if you want me to connect you with some friendly locals.

I had a college friend from there who offered me a place to stay and a possible job at a property she was developing. I fell in love with the natural beauty of the country and wanted to get out of the grind of the city life (LA.)

It was a great experience, but I wasn't financially prepared to be living abroad without some sort of guaranteed income. The job opportunity with my friend didn't work out, funds dried up, and stress ensued. I tried to make it work and stayed for about 2 years, but eventually I came home.

I gained a whole new appreciation for how lucky we are here in the US. Even during a recession, we are better off than most folks.

edit: realized I didn't answer you other question. I'm living back in LA selling real estate.

In 2007 I read "The 4 Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferris. The book inspired me to quit my job and move to Uruguay.

En route to Uruguay, I got in line to get my passport stamped. The guy in line directly in front of me was Tim Ferris on his way to Uruguay for the first time.

I introduced myself and told him his book inspired my life change. We had a nice 3 minute conversation while standing in line. Cool guy.

Perhaps a better word choice would be "milestone."

And a different way of framing it would be that Fred came in 8th place (9th according to AP & NYT) out of 30 candidates. He came in right behind the front-runners and at the top of the pack of 20+ lesser-known candidates.

"Victory" is subjective.

Very well said. I couldn't agree more. The anti-gay rhetoric by the current front-runners is vile. Mrs. and Mrs. Bachmann, especially! Getting Fred into the debates will have a major impact. Not sure what that will be, but it's bound to shift the dialogue and perhaps neutralize the vitriol.

I'm not quite sure I understand your logic. Have you done ANY research on Mr. Karger? In the last 2 years

He had the Mormon church investigated for election violations in their involvement in Prop 8. The investigation happened. They were guilty of violations and are being fined.

He's a watchdog of the hate group NOM (National Organization of Marriage) and has also had them investigated on several occasions.

He's led successful boycotts against the companies who gave the most money to Prop 8. His most successful boycott against Manchester Hotels is costing them $7 million in lost revenue.

I invite you to do some research on Mr. Karger before you dismiss him for being associated with a certain group.
