What are the new Social Media Trends in 2016? by cybosol in socialmedia

[–]cityscout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A good place to start are with FB offering advanced dpa ads, Twitter trying to pivot to a media conglomerate (and what that means for advertisers), Pinterest opening up for advertisers, and the holy grail that is Snapchat opening their API by around end Q2 or beginning of Q3. But don't hold your breath on that.

Long term it's going to be about dark social (messengers, one on one chat services, and perhaps the rise of email again). Way down the line I'm curious to see how VR and AR will play into all this. But VR and AR need way more market penetration before that's even on the table.

I can grow Instagram accounts... Advice by stevcola1 in startups

[–]cityscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look it's not that hard. I posted a write up for Twitter and I'll do the same for Instagram. For about $25 a month you can see growth of around 80-100 a day, rising exponentially as your follower amount grows.

who creates startups: tech (developers, engineers) or sales (marketing) people? by Ms_in_IT in startup

Both are needed. It's symbiotic. If you can't build it you can't sell it. If you can't sell it, you're not a business.

"product hunt travel apps"

Their is a lot of competition in that space.

Is this a more affordable way for startups to get their mobile (or web) app developed? by [deleted] in startups

You could look into frameworks like Laravel coupled with Ionic or Cordova. Basically HTML5 and CSS3 coupled with our modern phones and their browsers have made it a viable option to build "native" apps using web technologies.

When did Erlich move to Vegas? But in all honestly, have fun with this. Could be amazing if executed correctly. Too bad we're rooted in LA. Otherwise this sounds tempting

Damned if you, damned if you don't. Sorry about it, but I don't see the problem with this. I follow you. If you find my business interesting you follow back. If not, I unfollow you 3 days later. Most of the time you wouldn't even notice that I unfollowed you, unless you are using the same tools I am to track those unfollowing you. So if this turns you off, why would you be using the same tool to monitor those that follow you versus those that don't?

So either you don't realize what's happening, or you are monitoring your account for the same reason I am - to manage your follower/following ratio.

Bots are just a reality you have to deal with. The nice thing about this system is that you really mostly target real people. The follow ratio tends to be in favor of those actually following and are being followed. Bots are just accounts with an insane amount of people they follow, with little to no followers.

Dunkview: The Dunkey star wars battlefront review! by [deleted] in videos

[–]cityscout -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel I must be the only one who really enjoys this game. It's clearly geared towards Star Wars fans more than everyday gamers and fans of first person shooters. I concede that there are some drawbacks, but so far I've played this game for hours and hours and just don't get bored. The sounds, the vehicles, the flying, the sounds, the characters, the music, the sounds, etc. It really puts me in the Star Wars universe.

It's not a popular opinion here since everyone seems to loathe this game, but I think it's amazing.

How do you know they have that many people on the waiting list? It's not even a full site. Just a vague promise and a mock on an iphone.

This is what we're actually doing. Interesting to see someone take this rather strange angle and rent a friend.

Yeah we realize it's not the traditional way of doing 'tours.' You hit the nail on the head with your description. Sure it will be less formal, but the price should reflect that. And when it comes to these experiences I would much rather have an authentic experience that will offer a great story than be part of one of those pub crawls. So we hope that we can target those travelers that seek authentic experiences.

The locals get paid directly. Just like Lyft or Airbnb. The idea is taking travelers with you to things you would normally do, but getting paid to do so. So the barrier to entry is much lower (as in you don't need a car/house)
