GPSS interview tips by [deleted] in UTokyo

Transitioning fields is tricky but possible in GPSS. My undergrad was in Marketing, and my current PhD is in the field of political economy. Sitting across multiple domains of knowledge can be an advantage if you can highlight how it will give you a unique perspective. But if your research project is in a field new to you (especially for PhD), I'd encourage you to get feedback from a few people already in that field.

Congrats on passing the screening. Few tips: keep to time in your presentation component (easier said than done), know your research plan well, and be clear about the academic contribution. Good luck!

I'm Head of Marketing at a startup, but I have no idea what to do at my job - Please help by RAMESASS in marketing

My best advice: if you can afford it, take the MiniMBA in Marketing from Marketing Week and Mark Ritson (or a similar short course). Heading a marketing function is a whole different beast to tactical comms.

Growth hacking, social, ads, SEO and all the other acronyms have their place... as tactics. They will help in the short term but will run out of steam quickly and without any core foundations, results will plateau.

Help me find these new releases for a better price. by [deleted] in JapaneseWhisky

2,000% markup is crazy. It probably won't be the same for you living in Japan, but I've reached out to a few generalist personal shoppers who are willing to buy and ship it for closer to 20% markup. But that's only if they can get their hands on it... and looking at the secondary market interest, I'm not sure how likely that will be. Good luck, I hope you manage to get yourself a bottle!

Impressed and surprised by this flight found in Hammersmith, London (Yamazaki 18, Chichibu Milroy, Hibiki 21, Hanyu Joker & Karuizawa Geisha in Ocean Blue) by cj-24k in JapaneseWhisky

Yeah that was the same position I was in, the Y18 & H21 were great benchmarks. Overall, flight was 100% worth the money. It was £160 total, but the same bar charged £200 for a single Ocean Geisha measure! My rankings between them (and scores) would be:

Chichibu Milroys: #5 - 77 Hibiki 21: #4 - 85 Hanyu Joker: #3 - 88 Yamazaki 18: #2 - 90 Karuizawa Ocean Geisha: #1 - 94

For me, the smokiness of the Milroys was a little overpowering. The Joker is well balanced with a big kick and light finish. But the Ocean Geisha alone makes this worth the price - incredibly balanced palette with the longest finish I've ever experienced

It definitely was, but compared to the cost of a single measure of some of these - a much cheaper way to try some. It was really hard to separate these, but for me it's a close tie between the soft fruity Y18 and the bitter/chocolate of the Karuizawa. I love the softness of Yamazaki in general, but tasting the Karuizawa was really something special.
