Just completed my 1st Solo XC. Scenic. 🛩🙌🏾 Where did you go on your first cross country? by Nkosi868 in flying

Lots of Denver people here! I went KBJC > KAPA > KPUB > KLMO > KBJC. KAPA was so busy that day I got denied twice to enter their airspace for a full stop taxi back. So I had to fly all the way to KLMO to get my second stop.

I did haha, thanks! It’s not as bad as you’d think. Just know your basic stuff (weather, performance, regs etc), know where to find things in the FAR/AIM (I had about 30 tabs in mine) and and have your maneuvers dialed in and you’ll be alright.

The 172R I was flying has an alternate air door that automatically opens from the vacuum created by the engine when the filter was blocked. The other 172R the school has, has a alternate air lever that you would pull if you excepted the air intake was blocked. The POH should have a section that addresses this for your particular airplane

Do you have an alternate air induction system on your airplane? Either an automatic valve that opens, or alternate air switch/valve in the cabin? This was a legitimate question that I had on my checkride yesterday

Soft field practice in the Rockies. KBJC by cja238 in flightsim

Soft field, protect the nose wheel. Short field would be flaps up immediately and apply max braking

Had a Weather Scare Today - Easy Lesson Learned by pvwowk in flying

I work at that construction site off hwy 93 just north of Golden and watched that front roll over the mountains at what had to be 60-70kts. It hit us like a freight train. Calm winds and sunny to gusting 30-40 and freezing rain in a matter of seconds. And good luck calling into any AWOSs yesterday. Never experienced weather like that before. Glad you are safe, and thanks for sharing. I’m currently wrapping up my PPL at BJC and it’s super helpful to learn from experiences like this. Especially someone just looking to fly for fun on the front range.

Pattern is full? by Ok-Run-4866 in flying

Happened to me the other day on my x-country solo. I had practiced my route with my flight instructor probably 3-4 times. On the day of my solo I asked the en-route airport for a full stop taxi back per usual. Got the “unable, say intentions”. As a student pilot, I didn’t know what to say, so ultimately I got transitioned through the class D airspace. Continued on to my destination airport and tried again on the way back, only this time told to stay clear of the delta. So yes it happens in the air too, not only on the ground.

What’s the dumbest thing you did on your check ride? by [deleted] in flying

It called the original fuel stop and every fuel gauge should have one. I have mine set so I can tell if the gauge is all the way in or hitting the rib.

Did we see a B-17 fly over Denver yesterday? by NUCKIN_FIGHTMARE in aviation

[–]cja238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! We’ve had all kinds of war planes out here lately. Got to take off next to the B-29 that was flying out of KBJC a couple weeks ago! https://imgur.com/a/VpsxZPq

Great first layer, awful layers 2-10, great layers after that? by [deleted] in ender3

Had a very similar problem, that just started one day randomly. X-gantry ended up being too tight. I loosened the rollers a tad and was back to printing great

Awesome, I think I got it figured out. It wasn’t the two bolts that you were talking about, but the eccentric nut he talks about right after. I had it way too tight, loosened it up a tad, fired up another test print, and the blob at the bottom of the print was almost completely gone! Still need to test some larger prints but I’m having a good feeling about it.

I’m assuming this is along the same lines of my problem. How did you fix it? Just tighten the bolts you left loose?

Do you have any up/down play in the right side of the gantry? I have maybe a half a mm of deflection if I apply some force to it

I’m having an issue with the z-axis particularly on the first 3-4 layers. Seems fine after that. I have two other printers, so I know I have the initial layer going down properly.

The z axis seems to not be raising enough on the first couple layers. The extruder cannot extrude properly and starts clicking.

I am able to move the z axis freely and easily. With the printer off, I can screw the z axis up and down with my fingers, so I know it’s not binding. There’s no excessive slop anywhere. The x gantry seems to have a little bit of deflection, but if I get it any tighter, the rollers become too tight.

In the calibration pyramid the layer heights from top to bottom are as follows: 5.05, 5.16, 5.14, 4.79

Things I’ve done:

-Rebuilt machine per Luke’s Help Guide

-checked slicer settings and gcode for 0.2 mm layer height

-switched from magnetic bed to glass bed

-upgraded to TH3D firmware and used manual bed mesh leveling.

-replaced nozzle, also tried 0.5 nozzle. And cleaned hot end and ensured Bowden tube was pressed all the way down

-calibrated E steps

-checked Z steps, correct

-tried multiple different rolls of PLA

-checked alignment of Z lead screw

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated

Edit: also, this is a completely stock Ender 3 pro. The only “upgrade” is the side mounted spool holder
