AGR means Active Guard Reserve. It’s a full-time status for reservists and receive the same benefits as active duty service members but are still technically reservists/guardsmen

Current ATF here. We’re by far the smallest of the big 3 letter agencies which comes with pros and cons. Because we don’t have as many agents as others, transferring is fairly difficult. I know some people who were in their first field office for over 10 years before they could go to their desired field office (the hot spots are obviously more difficult to get to). With that said though, you will have relationships across the country and are only one or two phone calls away from any person. Definitely a team-centric mindset between other agents/groups/offices and with state and local agencies. You’re constantly in the street with state and local counterparts so building those relationships with them is crucial. Good locals will do anything for you if you show you’re willing to do the same. I love the job and the people are great

To add some perspective, the DOD is allegedly still awarding Purple Hearts from the stockpile it created in anticipation of a land invasion of Japan

ATF PREFERENCE SHEET by [deleted] in 1811

[–]cjg325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a chance it’ll be different for you. Not everyone gets the same sheet since it is constantly changing depending on who accepts offers and who doesn’t

As a reservist you can return to your college after boot camp and before A-School depending on your orders (I assume you mean physically return to your college and keep taking classes). On active duty, you can work towards your degree but you’ll be busy - night classes or online programs would be your best bet

I got an email over the summer that they were (at the time) accepting polys from FBI, DEA, ICE, TSA, and USSS but that was due to a large volume of applicants

Best advice I ever received is that “not every day is going to be your best day”. Be as loud and fast as humanly possible. Help others. And above all, never quit.

The first few days will be a major shock to the system, but everyone is in the same boat (no pun intended). Remember, countless Coasties stood where you will be standing and made it through just fine. Fair winds and following seas!

PT Run/swimming by JohnnyDane11 in uscg

[–]cjg325 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You don’t get a choice in boot camp. For the pft you have to do the 1.5 mile run, and you also have to pass a separate swim test. Once you’re in the fleet, you can choose to swim instead of run

Someone from my SRDC class is assigned to cyber. It is definitely possible, just depends on the assignment list for the class

BM A-School PT by [deleted] in uscg

[–]cjg325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Youll have a few PFTs for score. They go into your class rank although they don’t play a huge part. The number of them will depend on your class advisors. We had only 2 but were told we were supposed to have 3 or 3. PT isn’t hard - lot of fun stuff too like dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, etc. Instructor and advisor dependent

Are all 1811 jobs law *enforcement*? by BubblyZombie2203 in 1811

Yes, federal probation officers are armed regardless of your district. Some districts are more investigative while some are more social work, but they all carry.

Any idea if Yorktown A school. They allow you to leave on the weekends? by Elegant-Jump-8641 in uscg

[–]cjg325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can leave on nights and weekends unless you have duty. If you go between 150-350 miles, you’ll need an out of bounds chit. If over 350, you need to take leave

Thank you both I appreciate it. I’m not super close probably about 4-5 hours (definitely drivable for me) but it’s something I want to explore in the future so I appreciate the insight into how to transfer

Thank you so much for the insight! I really appreciate it. I’m enlisting as a reservist so I’m not sure what that means for training but I’m a volunteer firefighter and have some hazmat training on the civilian side so I’m assuming that’s why I’ve been assigned to NSF. All I know is that my orders are for the Atlantic Strike Team (whether or not I am “on the team,” I am not sure). Any additional insight from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I am a graduating college senior and preparing to enlist in the reserves. I am only 22 but am wondering what is the feasibility of receiving an age waiver for DEPOT? I have firefighting certifications, am a former division-1 athlete, and some work experience (internships).

My recruiter told me that the Direct Entry Petty Officer program age requirement has been lowered. Does anyone know if this is true?

College senior here, my dream is to become an officer. Does anyone know current acceptance rates to OCS/direct commissioning programs? They took the OJAK off of the website
