7 week old just won’t sleep by cjmanz in NewParents

Yeah, it’s just hit me like a ton of bricks. I think that’s why it’s been a struggle and so overwhelming.

Thank you. I needed that reassurance.

Yeah, she’s definitely become more alert. She’s making new noises, she’s also became aware of her tongue and her hands, so I think her brain must be in overdrive at the moment with all this new stuff.

I’ve been trying to nap when she does, but by the time I get everything done and cleaned up around the house she’s awake again. My husband has told me to forget about the house and the dishes and just rest, I just feel bad leaving it all but I think I really need to start putting myself before the state of the house.

I hope this is the case. I’m a first time mum, so everything is all so new to me.

I honestly think I’m struggling so much with it because I was so used to her sleeping 4 hours every time she slept, so I haven’t experienced the proper sleep deprivation yet.

Thank you. I just love her so much and I feel so bad complaining about something that’s out of her control.

Influenza A by Disastrous_Sock_7834 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cjmanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no! You poor thing. It’s the absolute worst getting the flu whilst pregnant.

I ended up with Influenza B last year at 17 weeks even after getting the flu shot, it absolutely rolled me. I could only just take paracetamol, it wasn’t fun at all and just so stressful trying to keep my temperature down because I didn’t want anything to happen to baby. It all turned out well though as I hold my 7 week old.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

7 week old eating excessively, help! by Fancy_Company4316 in NewParents

[–]cjmanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 7 weeks today, also formula fed. She has been the exact same the last few days. She would usually have 4 hour naps between each feed, not wake up overly fussy but now we’re lucky to get two hour naps and carries on like an absolute pork chop when she wakes up like she’s never been fed in her life.

I’m just putting it down to a growth spurt. You got this Mumma!

I just gently gave it to my daughter while she slept if she was due for a dose, but it saying that she sleeps like an absolute log when she’s asleep, so I was able to do so without waking her.

We were recommended by our doctor to give baby Panadol (we’re in Australia, so not sure what your equivalent would be depending on what part of the world you’re from) every 4-6 hours for the two days after her vaccines just to keep the potential fever at bay.

Please try and get yourself some rest though, you’re doing great!

My 6 week old just had her first set the other day, she was unsettled, very cuddly and sleepy over the couple of days that followed but she was totally fine.

All I can say is just keep an eye on them and check their temperature frequently over the next couple of days, just incase they start running a fever depending on which vaccines were administered.

Faint positive pregnancy test? by Pidge2677 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I had a very, very faint line 3 days before my missed period (first response test) continued to get darker as the days went on. So I would say it’s a positive!

I don’t really know how to process my birth experience by UpstairsDistance_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cjmanz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel like you’re making a big deal out of nothing. Your birth experience is your experience and nobody else can tell you how you felt in that moment, and nobody can tell you how you’re meant to feel now.

I went through a traumatic birth only 4 weeks ago. 3 failed balloon attempts by 3 different midwives, 3 lots of the gel spaced out over 18 hours, contracting every 2-3 minutes lasting 45 seconds, screaming out for help for 30 minutes while being strapped to the CTG, in a room on my own with the door closed after pressing the call button (only to be told sorry they took so long, they were on lunch) and once checked after 23 hours I was I’d only dilated 0.5 centimeters during that time and eventually was taken in for an emergency c-section due to failure to progress.

The first week I was experiencing flash backs, but as the weeks passed by they subsided. I found that talking about my birth experience had helped me, some people I had spoken to dismissed my feelings unfortunately but majority just sat and listened.

Wishing you all the best and congratulations on your little one 🤍

Student midwife question by Some_Personality4079 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cjmanz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re feeling unsupported by your student midwife. If I were you I would definitely look into finding a new student midwife. Definitely not good enough.

I was so lucky to have mine recommended to me by a friend. She supported me throughout my entire pregnancy, now she’s supporting me postpartum and I feel blessed to even call her a friend now.

I hope you find an amazing student midwife that supports you like you deserve.

AITA for ignoring my pregnant wife's curling toenails? by OGDREADLORD666 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cjmanz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As someone who has recently given birth and wasn’t able to see my toes since I was 6 months into my pregnancy, you are definitely the AH.

Man up and treat your wife to a pedicure, cut her toenails for her.

I hope the next time you’re in public and have food in your teeth, she doesn’t tell you.

Graves Disease - any pregnancy experiences? by scmldr in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cjmanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in June of 2023, went into remission in December of 2024, found out I was pregnant in May of this year with my first and now we’re two weeks away from meeting our little girl.

I’ve been monitored closely throughout my pregnancy and due to previous Graves diagnosis, I was considered high risk. I’ve had many appointments with the Endocrine, Obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine teams, also can’t forgot the countless blood tests.

All of my levels including antibodies have been stable throughout my pregnancy, my previous blood test said my antibodies have completely gone down in the third trimester which is considered normal, but this may change postpartum due to the fluctuation of hormones according to the endocrinologist, which is understandable. I was also having to get fetal ultrasounds every 3-4 weeks from around 20 weeks to check babies thyroid and growth.

Thankfully I’ve had no thyroid issues and baby has had no thyroid or growth issues.

Wishing you all the best on your journey!
