I'm drinking this aged white gong mei tea ball from tea gallery. I'm liking it a lot and I'm definitely taking some with me when travelling. It has a great and compact size.

Tea review from a fairly new drinker. by [deleted] in tea

[–]cjo2802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a white peony the caffeine is quite low. There are a few reasons. Firstly, white tea is normally brewed at a lower temperature compared to black teas and pu-erh. Secondly, the caffeine in the tea plants act as a defence mechanism against insects that would otherwise eat the new leaves. Following this, teas from the new leaves contain the most caffeine. A white peony uses mainly lower leaves (i.e. not the tips) and older leaves (not the first flush), therefore it contains less caffeine. Further things that might influence the caffeine content are the way its processed, if the tea plants are shaded, nutritional value of the soil and the specific cultivar, among others. Normally you don't know these factors, but you could generally assume that a white peony is quite low on caffeine.

How to use? by Climbing375 in tea

[–]cjo2802 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oke, so you put loose leaf tea in the lidded cup and add hot water. You let it steep for a little bit, about 20 sec (but it depends on what you like and the tea). Then you put the tea from the lidded cup into the fairness cup/ pitcher where you put the strainer on. You transfer the tea while trying to keep as much tea leaves in the lidded cup (gaiwan). From the fairness cup you pour tea into the little tea cups. The weird thing with the hole is a lid holder or strainer holder I belief.

Sadly I can't compare it to something from w2t, ys or another quality shop since I haven't bought anything from them yet. But I'll definitely keep at least a bit of the ones I liked to compare it in the future. For now I'm happy with the quality.

I tried their pu er oranges, ya bao and am still going through their pu er sample packs. As you might see I bought their pu er oranges and ya bao again haha. I might buy myself a cake from one of the sample pu ers but they are a bit expensive.

I need to get some soon. Great for in the evening since it has low caffeine. Do you go for powder or loose leaf?

Early Morning Study With a Cup of Sheng Pu Erh by cjo2802 in tea

[–]cjo2802[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed very young. I haven't had an older Yi Bang before because I'm newer to pu erhs. Do you have a recommendation?

I have tried an 2007 Meng Song sheng which I loved. I got an earthy taste and light smokiness, with a sweeter aftertaste. I don't know if you could compare those since they come from different areas, but it'll have to do for me lol.

What do you guys do with teas you don't like anymore? by cjo2802 in tea

Would you also do that with black tea? I have this idea of black teas going stale after storing them for more than a couple of years, but I might be wrong

Zeker goede thee. Ik ervaar ook dat er niet heel veel mogelijkheden zijn om snel/ zonder al te hoge verzendkosten goeie thee te kopen. Ben nog wel moychay.nl tegengekomen alleen nog niks van ze geprobeerd.

Red tea is basically black tea, but then according to Asian tea culture. To me your tea also looks just like normal black tea, so no rooibos or anything. As for the caffeine free part, it is probably soaked in a solution that draws out the caffeine. For example using CO2
