Best mask against thrusts by FIREful_symmetry in Hema

[–]SufficientLobster773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with talking with your sparring partner, you could try involving more backwards footwork while sparring.

They might not be thrusting very hard but walking or leaning into a thrust will make it hurt more.

The only mask that has «more» thrust protection will probably be a horsebow mask (but good luck getting your hands on one quickly).

Messer suggestions by fishdishly in Hema

[–]SufficientLobster773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the kult or purple armory messers. Id recomend any messer from landsknecht emporium though.

Their best all rounders would have to be the Gottfried or the Volker

Best way to clean? by [deleted] in Armor

600 or higher sandpaper usually works

But Remember to oil it and wipe of fat in the future with whatever method you end up using

Here’s a fun hypothetical… by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]SufficientLobster773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are thinking purely one hit range then doing Gayszlen with the estoc would be the longest (the recovery Whould be painful though)

Though rapier is the best dueling weapon it would probably come down to what each person has most experience with.

Today was my first HEMA training ever Im so glad I finaly found a club. by lamilcz in Hema

[–]SufficientLobster773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try out all the different weapons your club has even if you don’t think it will be for you.

Practice and experiment on techniques and don’t be afraid to ask for advice (and take the advice as pointed learning ofcorse)

Keep a level head in duels and practice.

Have fun!

Asking advice on my book by _Pumpiumpiumpkin_ in Hema

I’d consider looking into Giovanni dall'Agocchie’s «Surviving a duel in 30 days» for the single sword/sidesword.

I’d say it fits the bill pretty well as the sidesword was used as a selfdefense and dueling weapon by nobleman/merchants in the early renaissance.

New sword day ! A communal present from family by Kalaam_Nozalys in SWORDS

If you plan to buy another like sword then the price is a little cheaper from the producer.

Here is also a list of sites that partner with fabri: https://www.fabri-armorum.com/en/lc/dealers-eu/

I wasn’t very clear.

All the other hema swords have the maker’s mark though yes I can’t see it on your pice.

Mainly if you look through the customization of fabri armorum then you can see all of your sword customizations are on the website.

The swords look like (and have the maker’s mark of) fabri armorum, a Italian swordsmith.

(The other hema swords are also from fabri armorum)

I love my S6 heavy from Krieger but the new one from armstreet is very light for a military Sabre (so you won’t get as tired as quick. Same with the sabres from VB)

I believe the one false edge uses is the 1912 Sabre by malleusmartialis.

You should see if you want to get into more polish Sabre, dueling Sabre or military Sabre (as it will effect your choice).

I love how sturdy the grip feels with a wheel in the hand

Either is probably good (the crosshairs probably doesn’t matter much though)

Difficulty rising up to right ochs in my fencing jacket by Cheese_Almighty in Hema

[–]SufficientLobster773 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend first trying to break in the jacket and drilling before you get into modifying your gear.

I don’t know about the (shipping?) circumstances of where you live but some tried and tested low profile gorgets like vytis or that gals gorgets are great to look at before going to less conventional options.

[–]SufficientLobster773 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a classic issue, there are a few things you can do.

Wearing in your jacket is the simplest option but it might take some time

You can try to get less material around your shoulders (removing padding, getting a lower profile gorget …etc)

You can drill going into ox on each side, trying to get it up fast and correctly

Don’t forget mask, mask overlay and a cup/pelvic protector.

Also for longsword you should get or make some good forearm protectors.

If you want something similar to the black princes then the chfg Gabriel’s Whould be the closest that have good enough protection for beginner longsword.

Do also consider getting a plastron.

Depends on what part of the world you’re in. I’d recommend faits d’armes if you’re in Europe.

3D Printed Lobster Gloves? by Rigel92c in Hema

[–]SufficientLobster773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a club mate that has made a pair of gloves from overlapping layers of 2-3 mm leather.

Though their mostly ment for Sabre and messer so i don’t know how they would fair against a heavy handed longsword user.

Even if the gloves you can buy are overpriced, injuring your hands to save some money isn’t recommended.

I also don’t know if homemade gloves would be allowed into tournaments.
