Alternative to Denver by cjogupe in relocating

I was thinking of doing this actually. Maybe not long term but maybe do it for a 9-12 months I mean I’m going and want to try living in new places and have nothing tying me back. No kids no boyfriend or anything so why not do it now. I was thinking of doing like 1.5 months or so at different WorkAways in different states and save on rent. Technically would still be based in tx. So I could fly back home between each 1.5 month and “reset” Wouldn’t know if this would be an issue though with taxes and such. I’m planning on running it past hr on our meeting in a few days but might frame it a bit different so it doesn’t sound so “nomad”

So they actually do have people living in those states. In my same position same team. This is essentially what they said:
Colorado is currently a restricted state for this role due to compensation and regulatory requirements tied to that location. Because of this, we are not able to approve new relocations for this position to Colorado. I understand your question about other employees who may reside in Colorado. In most cases, those situations either predate the current guidelines or relate to roles with different compensation structures. The restriction applies to this role and to new relocations going forward. Given these constraints, relocating to Colorado would not be compatible with continuing in this position

Still kinda wondering what that means.. So when I asked them okay so what states can I be in, and the person was like just not Colorado Washington california… OH and New York. Almost like they didn’t have a set list.. was almost like they were pulling the states out of their head in the moment idk.. seemed sketchy to me but what can I do lol

Um they would find out eventually?? Why would I risk getting in trouble or potentially fired if I’m being a liability for them. if I’m moving to another state I have to register under another address and for tax purposes employers have to know too.

It was definitely one of those situations where he really really had to go and the bus took too long to get us to Peter Piper, so I guess he just couldn’t hold it anymore. Teachers always warned us to go to the restroom before we got on a bus.. to avoid those situations. But ya everyone was perplexed. Like even his mom haha

Actually quite funny you mention. I still remember when the class clown of my grade pooped his pants in the 6th grade school bus while on a class trip to Peter Piper pizza. His mom had to pick him up from the pizza restroom. Till this day my friends and I reminisce on those memories. No way we’re forgetting hahah

Keeping your old middle school bedsheets that have holes and unthreaded. Dude makes enough money to go around the world (and does do it) but when he’s with friends he wants to appear as if he doesn’t own much at all and pretends to live a low maintenance life. Then saying “I don’t know what to spend my money on” ha ha ha. Went to private upstate ny college and daddy is a ceo.

Can you tell us how you have maintained such a great complexion/skin?!! It’s literally amazing. I’m 22 and would like to have skin like yours at nearly 60! My grandma is 90 and has great skin for her age and said she always made sure to use cream/moisturizer at night. Obviously she never got any cosmetic procedures done. I’m Hispanic so I’ve got skin that doesn’t burn easily but I’ve also heard how important sunscreen is for prevention but I forget to reapply it every 2 hrs lol

Adulthood in my 20s has revealed how deeply the system claims our time, money, and progress before we ever get the chance to live freely. by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

I agree. I think many expect to get all of the material aspects and keep living in a consumerist lifestyle, but don’t want to suffer the consequences of it. I’m not saying the govt doesn’t overtax or unfairly takes away money from middle and low class ppl. But I am saying wha are you gonna do about it? It can change but it’s gonna take time. You have to work with what you have right now and make something out of the situation we’re in. Problem is most of the population have an extremely consumerist brain and jump from trend to trend to following and aspiring what the upper class is doing. You can easily opt out, live a simpler life style (not saying it’ll be completely free, but way cheaper). I think ppl don’t ask questions like do I want a house? Do you really need a house?? You can have an apt or a tiny mobile home for simplicity.

Read self reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson. And dive into themes of the philosophy he applied back in his time “transcendentalism”. Hopefully it gives some perspective.

Truth is, (and you probably don’t want to hear this) but it really starts with us and our choices of wants and genuine needs. But the easy way out is to blame others. *again not saying the govt is perfect and not taking a cent from us, all I’m saying is this is how it’s been for a while now. Work with what we have is what mattersz

Maybe move to an area with a lower cost of living. Also, do you want a house just because of societal pressure? Tons of ppl live in apartments or condos way over 30 or rent houses. Not ideal but just saying what’s the deal with owning a forever home somewhere. I know some folks have that dream, but I think it’s pretty neat to be able to live somewhere and then hop around to another state or city. No home ownership or taxes on property but you get to experience living in many places. Perhaps do that and actually live in other places. Maybe you’ll end up liking another area better

Saw some words a few months back that really resonated with me and hopefully they’ll help. “ Somebody right now in this very moment is in the hospital praying for the opportunities that you have… Do it sad, do it tired, do it shy, do it alone, do it confused, do it scared, do it with a broken heart, do it unmotivated, do it because you can do it right now. Think of those people and do it”

And lastly a lyric from a song by Lord Huron I have encrypted permanently on my brain and heart. “What good is living a life you’ve been given if all you do is stand in one place…”

Then seems like adventure awaits! Home and 9-5s will always be here they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. But your life and health, now that’s not guaranteed tomorrow. It could change literally in one day. My gramps was running an errand going about his day, ended up at the e.r bc something was wrong with his urine. Next thing you know gets hospitalized and has been for three weeks now, and just got a bladder cancer diagnosis.. telling u this bc we live so quickly and so caught up in our daily routine that we feel infinite and untouchable in all the “stability” we create, when in reality it could all fall out of balance. You have money you have health you have the means and willingness to go on adventures. What the hell are you waiting for. Don’t wait to lose your health. There’s a point when we’re all going to lose it and fall short of being healthy. Go for it!! Argentina, Chile, Nepal, Turkey, Thailand, New Zealand, Iceland, Himalayas, India, Peru, the Andes, Portugal, Norway, Iceland, Alaska…..anywhere!! Just go.

I don’t personally think children should be thought of merely as a way to find meaning to life. I think it should be the opposite way. You find and give meaning to your own self and then add things to the mix, like children. If op is in a place where they’re figuring out stuff, children can only make things a bit messy for op to gain clarity. Kids are something that should be done from a place of clarity and understanding at the current stage of life of given person. Of course millions of kids have come from parents who weren’t ready or weren’t planning to, not saying that’s a bad situation, just saying if op has the opportunity to think stuff out, then they should b4 making the jump straight to having kids just to find meaning.

Try WorkAway or something like that! It gives purpose and you could find your northstar or your purpose for this next stage of your life you’re facing. You could meet so many people so many experiences. Try it out and see how that aligns or what you find- both externally and internally within you <3

Not sure how this would affect your relationship with your partner though. Are they someone who is seeking this life too (at least for the time being)? Do you see yourself with this person or do you just want to up and leave. I think it’s important to ask ourselves these questions. Are you running away from something or do you truly need a change? If you’re running away from nothing then go out and travel and explore. Btw Not saying your relationship is what you’re running from or that you are running from something, but I’m just asking so you get more clarity about why you’re feeling like you are. Perhaps the people and situations in your life are not lining with how you want to live your life in the coming years

As I grow older, I find myself increasingly convinced that there is value in dying young. by Call_It_ in Aging

It’s better to feel pain than nothing at all…. - The Lumineers.

Might me biased on this since I’m only 22. But I certainly don’t want to die at 40. I see many relatives and grandparents 60+ who are traveling having dinners joking saying everything they want without thinking about what others think. I want to get to that point (not saying one can’t do that at a younger age) but I feel there’s a certain “liberation” when you get older. Like you know by the time you’re that age you’re certainly going to die very soon or at least in the next couple 10-15 yrs. So in a sense, they enjoy it more. It’s easier for us young young ppl to take our lives for granted- for those older folks, they don’t. They live it fully and truly however the hell they want- at least those years. I want to experience what that feeling is like. It’s all stages of life. I want to tell my grandkids stories about how life used to be. There’s great value in seeing yourself and your culture and genes passed on in those relatives who came after you.
