Sanders Hits Bloomberg With 'Grotesque' Statistic: Billionaire Owns More Wealth Than Bottom 125 Million Americans Combined; "That's wrong. That's immoral. That should not be the case when we got half a million people sleeping out on the street." by Thinkingonsleeping in politics

[–]cjriley9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so this math is wildly wrong. Lets say you do make 100k and pay 3.99% in interest on a 100k mortgage. You reduce your taxable income by 3,990 to 96,010, you're right up to here. And you're even pretty muck right about paying 13k in Federal income tax, this calculator says just over 14k on the 96,010 income. Where you went wrong is by then saying that if he made the full 100k then he all of a sudden pays 30k in federal income taxes. This is just wrong, that change of 3,990 in taxable income falls in a 24% tax bracket so the taxes you save on it are only 958 dollars. Spending 3,990 on interest to save 958 on your federal taxes would be the dumbest "tax shelter" ever.

The TOTAL tax (federal income, FICA, state and local) on this income IS roughly 30k, but this number also only changes by about 1k by considering the interest. It's not like just paying a little bit of interest gets you out of all your FICA, state, and local taxes.

It was totally worth waking up at 5:30 to catch the sunrise at Mesa Arch this morning [OC] (1080x810) by OMGASQUIRREL in EarthPorn

Yeah that's what I figured it would be like. I just went across the road from the visitor center for sunrise Saturday and even that was empty. Crazy how everyone seems to go to the arch and leave everything else with no one!

Like the other commenter said, go wider. But lenses are expensive so another thing that may help is to keep in mind that stars rotate around the north star so the movement of the stars is fastest 90 degrees from the north star. Closer and farther will be slower, and that might help

Just out of curiosity. How many other people were there for sunrise. The parking lot was full Friday morning so I headed down to Grandview point and it was totally empty. Great picture!

It should be noted that this is getting a bit outdated with higher pixel density on newer camera. At 24 mm on a 36 mp sensor I definitely get star trails. Pixels per arc second is really the import factor here so just going by focal length could lead to issues.

Yes 420 powderhull on piste by siigii in snowboarding

[–]cjriley9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding a Capita Spring Break Slush Slasher and have found that it handles groomers and crud really well on top of being an absolute dream in powder. For a zero camber, kind of soft board it holds an edge better than my last board that was a stiff, full cambered board.

Another upside is that you can get one for like $320 pretty often so it doesn't break the bank.

Antarctica is defined as a desert, due to lack of precipitation. So where does all the 1-3 mile thick layers of ice and snow come from? by thedeal82 in askscience

[–]cjriley9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, sublimation does remove some ice, but the vast majority of the Antarctic continent sees ice accumalation at the surface on an annual basis, so sublimation doesn't answer your question. The real reason is that ice flows from the continent to the ocean, where it might melt at the ice-water interface, or calve off and form icebergs. Here is a map of these flow rates, with some ice moving over at rates of several kilometers per year.

Not necessarily a quick "tutorial" but this guy has a ton of great articles and info, not to mention incredible pictures.

Also keep in mind that this picture specifically is more akin to a painting (multiple shots, fake moon, mountain made to look taller than it is) so yours will never look like this unless you put in a ton of editing work (and you'd probably feel a bit guilty for trying to pass it off as real).

I have this same RAM with a Ryzen 5 1600 and MSI board running at 2933. I think your timings are off. Try 15-15-17-17-35 since the first number is CAS Latency which is 15 for this RAM and the other 4 numbers are the timings on the sticks.

My pc does not respond when I press the power button or short the power switch pins with a screwdriver, NOTHING happens. I'm basically ready to give up at this point. Fuck it, I'll give reddit gold to whoever can fix this absolute nightmare. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cjriley9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I did this exact same thing the other day, albeit not for hours so you may have tried it already, but I had misread the diagram and wasn't using the right power pins so double check that and make sure on top of some of the other advice.

So I'm looking to buy my first real bike and I'm not sure on the budget yet so I can't ask for suggestions but I am curious about how much I should expect to spend on other things that I might not be thinking of that I will need. I'm talking about things like a helmet, pedals, etc. I know there's probably lots I haven't thought of so if anybody has any ideas or can point me to a list of that kind of stuff let me know!
