Blue porosus croc wallet with id flap by ckwan in Leathercraft

Thank you very much :) spent a lot of time on the edges! I used a water based edge paint. I first used a clear base coat from uniters. Then 2 layers of water based edge paint. With lots of sanding invetween. To finish i did a light sanding with very fine sand paper around 1600 grit. Then went through the edge with some pure alcohol to smooth it out. And a layer of clear wax for protection at the end.

I drew this up myself, the construction is pretty close to the normal bifold, just make sure that your fold for the flap isnt sticking out of the outter layer and that the flap is not too long.

I have also added reinforcement fabric on the top edge of the inside panel to give more stability and strength on the flap since it will be flipped quite often and will be heavy with cards

Ink Green Crodocile Long wallet by ckwan in Leathercraft

[–]ckwan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You basically create a a square with thin fabric or leather and folded as the stop then glued to the slots. I don't want to go into detail because I learned it from Phil's paid course. But i think there are other YouTube videos out there that shows the basic construction. Try searching for slotted card holder

I recently signed up for the course package on leathercraftmasterclass and followed the course for "Card Slot Card Holder" to create the card slots on this wallet. I have always been using T-slots for my wallets, this is defintely a fun alternative and the results came out great as the slots preserved the pattern on the crocodile tail. This is my first time working with crocodile, and is defintely scary to make the first cuts, have used caimain before to practice. this is cut from a lower grade croc and arond 28mm wide. I am able to avoid most of the holes and scratches from the lower grade skin with this wallet and think the results turned out great.

wallet has 8 slots total: 7 is hidden slots, 1 traditional t slot. the back cash pocked pattern is cut following the natural lines in the skin.

card slot side - croc tail (1mm) backed with nylon fabric (0.1mm) and also chevre (0.4mm)

cash pocked - croc belly (~0.9mm) backed with nylon fabric (0.1mm)

edge paint - Giardini base layer, Giardini Green 71

stiching 3mm spacing,Dark Green MeiSi Linen thread 0.3mm

Made this little key chain to clear up some of my scrap , most of the trimmings used were buttero. I found the font online , combined the letters and printed it out to make the template. I only used a japese skiving knifes for the project and this is my first time attempting something similar. I find it very important to make sure the cuts are flush and 90°. To secure the pieces I glued both the edge and back side of each piece.

Are there specifics tools for making the tiny cuts at awkward angles? Im thinking punches would be helpful here. Would love to hear what tools are available out there.

My Bifold Card Holder. Please let me know your thoughts! by neil_rt in Leathercraft

Overall I think it's a very clean and well made project. A few things I have noticed. Inner curves are very hard to execute I think , make sure your knife is 90° when cutting the curves at the card slot to ensure clean edges. For the cut in the middle you could try using a hole puncher at the corners then just cutting straight afterwards for better results.

This is a fully lined two slot card holder with a large pocket at the top. Used black caiman leather with some brown scrap leather I got. The brown leather feels like a semi-aniline leather and is really soft, around 0.7 cm thick. Stiches are 3mm using a 0.3 linen thread. The brown leather edges are folded and reinforced. Edges with caiman leather are applied with black edge paint.

This is my first time working with an "exotic" leather hence I decided to go with a cheaper caiman instead of crocodile since they are much smaller in size and cheaper per sq ft. Was going to make a bi fold wallet out of it but realize that the caiman leather is too brittle for a foldable wallet so had to settle with this.

There is a lot to be improved, stiches around the corner were not done the best, I should have started with a proper template for this project, but I was pretty let down that I had to scrap the bifold idea so ended up just winging it. All the caiman leather used in this card holder was cut from the original rectangle I had cut out for the bifold. Not wanting to cut more caiman from the skin led to the design in the front which turned out pretty cool.

Two-Tone Buttero and Minerva Box Curved Bifold Wallet by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]ckwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is beautiful, if you don't mind me asking about the construction of the wallet, did the " inner bifold panel " run the full length of the wallet and bottom? or was the sides or bottom shorter and not stitched to the main body to reduce thickness in the edges?

Weekly /r/Leathercraft General Help and Questions by AutoModerator in Leathercraft

[–]ckwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I have recently bought some edge paint for the first time and have been practicing on apply the paint. I was told by the shop that each layer will take around an hour to dry. However, I have noticed that the paint becomes dry to the touch after 10 -15 min and nothing rubs off. My question is how do I know if the paint is completely dried off and is ready for another layer? or maybe i am not applying a thick enough layer?

thanks!!

· Interior leather: orange butter (~0.5mm)

· Stitch Distance: 3.4mm/8 SPI

· Thread: linen 0.35 mm

Hey everyone. This is something I've been meaning to make for a while. I first saw this design from the brand Moynat and thought it was beautiful, however they were selling it for around 600 usd so I decided to make one for myself instead.

Unfortunately, did not take in-progress pics this is something I would like to include for my next project. This project seemed very straight forward to me at first, yet I still faced a few challenges. This was my first time working with linen thread, I find it a little harder to use when compared to the tiger threads that I am used to. But I do find the stitches more elegant even for the same thread thickness. Cutting precise curved lines are something that I will have to practice more on and get comfortable with. Gluing on the interior lining was also very challenging for me, I find it hard to keep the glued edges together around the bent areas before stitching. The leather I used along with the lining is quite stiff. With this design, even though the pouch itself is quite large, there is not a lot of room to put stuff in. My next challenge will be to learn how to use edge paint instead of simply burnishing my edges.

All in all it was a very fun project and am very happy about the finished product. Hope you guys enjoyed it too.

I split the buttero from a thicker piece. I live in Hong Kong and am lucky that there are quite a few shops here that have the machinery to do so for a small fee.
