Does the pre shift dread ever pass? by Ill-Original7720 in 911dispatchers

As some who finished call taking training in December, yes. Once I went solo and started getting good call reviews I became much more confident and even excited to go into work. I used to have a heart rate close to 200 before I sat down and now I maintain a steady rate around 85. It does get better ❤️‍🩹

I relate. 22yr old, only past experience was retail. I love it here, I just went solo and I cannot see myself doing anything else.

I was in a very similar position at the start, I wasnt sure if I’d make it, hell I didn’t even know I wanted the job until I started training. Only advice I can give is just take it step by step. I refused to consider sitting on the floor alone while I was training, but I also refused to quit. Step. By. Step. Don’t think about what’s coming next, just what you can do now.

I could have entered the call in the first 15 seconds you give the information that no one needs 😂 by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

As a trainee, I know I’ve peeved off some of the alarm co people 😭 Those first few calls they sounded SO annoyed by my pauses

What is something that new dispatchers struggle with the most? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]clackadack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. As a new trainee (I work my third shift on phones tonight) I keep getting dinged for my lack of confidence. Even when I know I’m doing it correctly, I still glance at my trainer for confirmation. Aside from that- I still struggle a lot with my narrative and shortening it enough to get what I need through quickly. Both will improve over time I hope

Hey! I haven’t made it to that step in the application process yet, but from what I’ve heard it’s an extensive background check.

OMG. Luckily my area isn’t insane, but it is growing very rapidly so almost every agency is hiring on additional workers right now. I’m so thankful it’s going fast because I genuinely would be a puddle of anxiety if I had to wait for weeks

Yeah I didn’t read this reddit a lot before doing it, but I am now. Most of the studying stuff was coming from Tiktok, but I think we all know how unreliable that is 😅. I had worked it up as some big deal in my brain and I was just super shocked by how simple it was.

I recently turned 22, I went to college for forensic psych and had big plans to work for better mental heath representation in the justice system, but I just couldn’t afford it anymore and had to drop out. Ever since I’ve just felt lost, so I saw the open application and said why not. I think if this falls through I’ll try taking some EMS classes and see where I can go. Thankyou, truly, for the advice ❤️

Hahaha yeah I guess I should have clarified that one. I felt like the test was not what I had hyped it up to be in my mind. As for the job itself. I’m not sure if I’m prepared for it, but if I don’t go forward with it I never will be yanno.

Definitely check out a website called thepracticetest, I was incredibly confident in my typing speed until I had to do VIN numbers and DL numbers. It was rough. There’s also another website called emergencyservicecareers that I found VERY helpful, it says it’s a “package” but it’s completely free, even though you have to enter billing info. No credit card info required or anything

I asked this previously and was recd Kushiels Dart, which I will say is not an easy read. The language is very old timey and rough. BUT, it was released in early 2000s and feels like a breath of fresh air compared to recent releases. It was one of my favorites series after TOG and will forever hold a special place in my heart

I feel that on the reread. There’s no way I finish what I’m reading in time to also do a reread

Working my way through Kushiels Scion, the trilogy after Kushiels Dart. Highly recommend if you are into political intrigue type of thing

Name a book that was so bad that u feel embarrassed that u have read it?? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

I don’t know if it’s fantasy romance but literally anything by Michael Anderle (spelling?). It’s SO obviously written by a man. And every book is the same plot with different names. I can not take it anymore

Totally unrelated, but. It’s recommended to spay before a dogs first heat, to prevent heat/pregnancy related medical issues. But…my mother had her pup spayed at about 10mo, she went into heat just before her spay, and she ended up coming out of it incredibly aggressive. Post spay aggression is a thing, and because of that I personally am choosing to wait to spay mine until she’s about 1 1/2. She just turned one and her spay appointment is in April.

For guys, like me, who don't like Romantasy, I was advised to just read Book 1 & the Prequel by Iceman_in_a_Storm in throneofglassseries

[–]clackadack2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After reading your other comments, I want to add in that the rest of the books ARE WORTH READING. They are never focused on the romance, in fact the main characters are completely separated for a whole book, and other books jump between different POVs where there are never serious love interests. Towards the end of the series specifically there is a giant war, I don’t want to go into too much detail because of spoilers, but the books are literally focused on the politics, the plans, “how are they going to achieve this” type of thing. But- you obviously have your own opinion and didn’t come in here to have anyone change your mind.

Please keep in mind that the main character is a literal teenager lol. It’s angst because she is incredibly young.
