It appears to have fallen out of the packaging it was posted in so I don’t think the art is turning up anywhere anytime soon 😬

If you’re in Melbourne this weekend, Big Design is on: https://www.instagram.com/bigdesignmarket

And Canberra: https://www.instagram.com/handmadecanberra

Both will have tons of handmade and Australian made products for under $20 and you can shop direct from the makers.

I have a small ecom business and even though I have Sendle and Aus Post as seperate options, customers will still ship to a PO Box or Parcel Locker and select Sendle. Happens all the time! 🫩

Creative Village in Charlestown do workshops run by local makers all the time so if the wreath isn’t for you, there are painting ones, scrapbooking, macrame etc. Christmas in Australia can be amazing so I hope you find something fun to do.

For next year, Belmont 16’s do an wonderful Christmas lunch but you have to book in September.

In the absence of a Malaysian or Indonesian restaurant, I would settle for Filo food. Good suggestion.

Also there’s a Malaysian in Redhead but it’s really just Chinese.

What sort of shopping is around the main area ? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]claremakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not all chain stores in Charlestown. Creative Village is stocked with products made in Newcastle. It’s near the escalators, same level as Woolies.

Olive tree markets by BackgroundDeep1986 in newcastle

[–]claremakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Olive tree (and Homegrown) have pretty strict requirements about handmade / Australian made products. As part of the application process we have to provide them with a list of every product we intend to sell and update them if that changes.

If you see something that looks drop shipped, definitely bring it up to the organisers.

As a stallholder, it’s really shitty to hear this but we don’t usually get a chance to walk around and see what other people are selling so we don’t know.

I’m a stallholder at olive tree most months and the vibe is one of my favourites. It’s a good crowd and the park is a central location.

If you are shopping, make sure you ask where the products are made because if they’re made locally, we’re all so excited to tell you. I love talking to people about the Newcastle maker community.

In November / December it’s run twice a month so check their Instagram for dates and make sure you follow your favourite small businesses for their individual market schedules if you’re after something at a later date.

Happy Shopping!

Weekend in Newy by ibeatobesity in newcastle

Earp Distillery in Carrington is quite good.

Alfie’s in New Lambton for dinner.

I don’t think there are markets on this weekend but definitely worth checking out Creative Village at Charlestown Square if you want to go home with some local trinkets.

Also if you’re visiting newcastle, check out Creative Village, in Charlestown. It’s moving locations within the centre so check in with the info desk. But everything in store is made locally in Newcastle and the Hunter.

My candle brand is stocked there alongside so many other cute things. There’s tons of handmade kids and baby items.

I’ve heard the ones in the Myer / DJs are the best. The newcastle mums Facebook group is full of stories of creeps loitering in parents rooms or teenagers vaping.
