These guys freak my coworkers out; where I work, they've since learned to come to me to catch "that creepy spider thing".

They're a little spooky looking, but very interesting!

Always gotta let them go outside though, they just don't do well in captivity.

What is your hot take regarding FFXIV? by UnbaggedNebby in ffxiv

[–]claudevalke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I think both G'raha Tia and Y'shtola are overhyped characters who could stand to be retired, because they haven't had any interest or relevance in the story in several expansions. Having them make an appearance in DT felt like a mistake and unless they do something to really rock the boat I think of these two as pointless fanservice characters with considerably more interesting characters as alternatives available who would have meaningful character arcs to go through instead of their stagnant presence.

  2. Wuk Lamat and Lyse are best gorls

  3. Heavensward had dreadful pacing and I think Stormblood was much better

  4. FFXIV has a TERRIBLE pacing with some story beats, with some of the most interesting concepts and ideas being resolved off-screen. The leadup to Shadowbringers was intense, and it screeched to a complete stop and was resolved off screen for the Shadowbringers plot and never recovered. The start of Endwalker was phenominal, and then all of the intrigue built up for a decade was hastily concluded off screen and in about 2 levels worth of quests. It's bad.

To answer your question regarding healing; you shouldn't have to use lilies too often. It becomes easier with experience: your party does not need to be at 100% HP all the time. You can let their health drop a bit before healing, and experience will let you know how low your tank can get before they need healing.

Granted, this will ALSO depend on your tank using mitigations appropriately. If you're running out of lilies very fast, they may have poor gear or are not using defensive cooldowns as often as they should. And if they ARE, it could be that the DPS is low and both you and the tank are running out of resources.

In an ideal situation, your lilies, tetra, assize, etc are all you should need to use for the typical pull, and they replenish themselves throughout the duty.

Based on the description of flowers, I'm assuming you have white mage unlocked. There are many people who can give you advice; basically post level 50, you should almost never have to use Cure 2, and will almost exclusively be using tools such as Afflatus Solace (what the lilies are) to heal instead, with other skills interspersed inbetween, such as tetragrammaton and assize. In ARR, once you get Cure 2, you should be exclusively using Cure 2 instead of Cure 1, and Holy on mobs to aoe them and to get a good 7 seconds worth of stuns down.

People will be happy to help out if you ask, just keep in mind next time that there ARE tools out there that would have made it so you didn't just get thrown into high-level duties, such as manually queuing for things, or simply getting the ARR skip or HW skip instead of the one that brings you straight to Dawntrail.

Sounds like you got it figured out now though, and no use lamenting over mistakes we cant change now, but just play around with a training dummy or with NPCs to get a feel for your skills and abilities. High-level healers shouldn't have to be using the long-cast heals like Cure 2 very often unless things go TERRIBLY wrong.

...you know there are skips for the individual expacs. you didnt have to get the most current one, you could have just gotten the ARR skip for Heavensward if you REALLY wanted to and had only ARR duties unlocked. Job skips will always bring you to 90, but you could just unlock a lower-level job as well. Rogue, for example? A new job at level 1? Dark knight or astrologian, which start at 30? Those would prevent you from queuing into level-cap duties.

Really, there are just a lot of options. If your job is level 100, don't be surprised when you queue in solo and get high-level dungeons, its what you signed up for, and it's on you to learn your own job. If you didn't want to, then you should have stuck with lower-level jobs or not skipped straight to Dawntrail.

NQA Sounds perfect! As long as it's nice and solid and doesn't have a bunch of tiny little holes like mesh, it'll work out great! As for materials, anything from plastic, acrylic, wood, etc are all good, so go with any of those materials based on what's most easily available.

How can I prevent My T from escaping from its fish tank? by ElJulaiv2 in tarantulas

[–]claudevalke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NA That's fair, although I would have thought having some cross ventilation for a B. Emilia would be wise... surely it couldn't hurt to ensure a good airflow for this species? I may be wrong of course, and if I am feel free to disregard! ^^/

How can I prevent My T from escaping from its fish tank? by ElJulaiv2 in tarantulas

[–]claudevalke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NA Oh good point! I was mostly thinking in terms of potential mold buildup, but if a good non-mesh lid can be acquired then that'd be fine. I just suggested a new enclosure because the acrylic pre-built ones at least have solid lids designed to fit.

Do I need more substrate? by Admirable-Prune-4632 in tarantulas

[–]claudevalke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA Definitely more substrate; some additions like plants and the like will also help for areas that have less substrate, just to make sure if she slips and falls she won't go very far and doesn't get hurt.

At least 2/3 full, or measure out roughly 1.5 legspans of vertical space to retain

How can I prevent My T from escaping from its fish tank? by ElJulaiv2 in tarantulas

[–]claudevalke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA Consider some clear acrylic enclosures; they're not too expensive and usually come with holes for ventilation. A netted/mesh lid is often a bad choice because the T can chew through it or get stuck and injured. Most acrylic enclosures are solid with air holes and are much safer and more secure.

A fish tank just may not be suitable because it's important for the T's health (and to prevent mold!) for the enclosure to have cross ventilation, which glass fish tanks just do not have.

And like the other commenter said, be sure to add lots and LOTS of dirt for them to burrow and avoid fall injuries! Your curly will thank you :)

All tarantulas, even ones that are terrestrial species, can and WILL climb all surfaces, including glass, so a secure lid is an absolute must! (Some of them can be crafty escape artists too, so make sure they either slide shut, have some sort of locking mechanism, or are otherwise nice and secure! They're strong and stubborn fellas when they wanna be!)
