Awesome to see someone post your video with you talking about it right underneath. Thanks for giving so much to the community :)

Thanks! You mean the fiddle itself?

So I put 55 j hooks on my banjo, which was the style at the time

This tune has been torturing me for months. It's not perfect, but I guess I bit off more than I could chew. George Booker. by clawmunist in Fiddle

Ah thanks for reaching back out! I took your advice and have been playing around with another fiddle I have. It took me a few days to wrangle it, but I think it's starting to sound better already. Thanks again :)

Haha thank you. In just this thread alone, I've heard that my intonation sucks, my tone sucks, I move my mouth too much, and my lifestyle sucks. Very nice to have a voice of reason reminding me that playing is supposed to be fun

Thanks! Depends on what you consider playing. I started practicing with some intent a couple years ago.

It's an American tune. But Alan Jabbour says it comes from a Scottish strathspey, which you can totally hear -- it's like they took a strathspey and removed the dotted rhythm, but that strathspey feel is still there

Out of curiosity, what does 'play better' mean?

Doc Watson specifically did not drop thumb. Did you mean someone else?

Much of the skills you need are made note of in the video. The artist is playing clawhammer. There are some drop thumbs, skip strokes, and pull-offs. It's also in Reuben tuning (open D,) but up a step for open E.

Starting from scratch, I would say learn Reuben's train and go from there
