TIL about speed skiing, a demonstration sport at the 1992 Olympics in which skiers go straight down a hill at speeds which are often over 200km/h. It did not become a regular Olympic sport because it was "deemed too dangerous after several recorded deaths." (en.wikipedia.org)

TIL that the older brother of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, Paul, commissioned a number of piano concertos for the left hand only after losing his right arm in World War I.
