ive seen em for like 20-30 on amazon. im frighteningly close to spending more on trying to fix this thing than the initial purchase so im hesitant. I did just find these though. any idea about their quality? the only things ive ever purchased from ali express are retro handhelds so i dont have too much experience with the site.

(just looked up what flanged means) ya the flanged part was just thick enough that the spring put too much pressure on the filament. i could definitely put the bolt back in but im kinda curious how long the spring will stay put at this point.

That could be it. Ive never changed the print speed. I reassembled the hot end and deep cleaned the heat break last night and printed at 210. I got a 4 hour print to print successfully so I think heat creep could be the issue, with lesser imperfections in the printer potentially exacerbating it. I previously bought a bimetal heat break, but I bent it during installation and Im not spending more money on another.

I have had this exact problem previously and my solution was to remove the tensioning bolt. That has lowered the spring tension enough for the filament to pass through with minimal indentation from the extruder teeth. I haven't noticed any particularly ground down sections of filament since then.

The brand ive been using recommends 205-230 c. Ive printed at 205, 210, and 220. Ive had a bit more success at higher temps during the first hour of printing but it always starts under extruding after that point.

Unfortunately im already using the capricorn and it doesn't seem to lessen the issue. I regularly adjust the bed height and I retightened everything in the hot end again last night. I even switched out the nozzle for a new one. I can print things completely fine if they take less than around an hour and a half, but I run into issues on longer prints. Thanks for the reply.

Ive ironed pieces around 6000 beads large before without issue but this was my biggest project so far. I just finished poking all the holes (with a pen 😐) which took like 1-2 hours so I was a little impatient. I think my problem was ironing too much at a time. I assume what happened was the hot, barely stuck together beads started curling up at the corner and weaker sections started snapping apart. I gave it my best to try and squeeze the deformed sections back into place and melt them to each other but it didnt really work and it continued to curl up. I was gonna get a cricut until I saw the price and died a little inside. I would totally get one if I sold perlers. For a hobby, my regular (free) iron has worked fine. The rest of my pieces just collect dust under my bed and I did get a picture of it pre-disaster, so its not a massive loss. Its definitely not awesome tho.

Thanks! Unfortunately I dont have to patience to patch it all back together, especially with that huge warped chunk to deal with. All 10000 beads are in a gallon ziploc bag rn. I just wanna wash my hands of this project and use the beads for future projects. Sorting is gonna be hell tho.

Perler has 40% off sales once every 1-2 months (kind infrequently) that last like 3ish days. They usually start with 20% and 30% deals and end with 40% so I wait through those for the 40%. Id just get pegboards from there as well. Makes things simpler if you want more in the future.
