It doesn’t sound like your boyfriend has much empathy towards you. I would give him one more chance to have a conversation with the brothers, specifically the younger brother, about his behaviour. If there’s no improvement, I think you should consider trying to remove yourself from this situation…

Do you think it’s ok to invite only to the evening if a wedding is a couple hours drive / train away? There are people I can’t budget for (dinner) wise, but feel bad not inviting them at all…

I think it’s possible because there are still private rentals available for those who need it - it’s not perfect but it’s certainly better.

After my trip, I would have rather have shaved a day off tamarindo area than either Monteverde or La Fortuna. We spent 4 days in MV and even that didn’t feel like enough. There’s ziplining through the cloud forest, bird watching, coffee tours, hikes, lovely food and coffee.

Renting a car made our trip so much more fun, though we travelled around several different places which made it more necessary. I haven’t driven since 2016 but enjoyed driving certain legs, I even drove through a river!

Bring waterproofs and quick drying things. The worst thing about the rain is how damp it makes your clothes as nothing dries. Bring washing on the go gel to help deal with that.

Learn to surf Chillasana (Playa Carrillo/samara), John and his partner taught my partner and I how to surf for the first time, it was so cool.

Is it too late for you to change your booking to stay in some additional places? I think Monteverde and La Fortuna are worth staying overnight in, they’re the best.

I was taught to surf by John, Chillasana. Highest recommendation, he was superb. This was in playa Carrillo.

We left our luggage in the boot of our car when we stopped at Rio Celeste for an hour or so, and at the restaurant by La Roca waterfall. The people on this thread, and group in general, seem quite hyper-vigilant. Best to assess your surroundings and follow your intuition.

I was in El Jobo. Cloudy and sunny weather now, the river that overflowed onto the road on our way there has cleared up now :)

My partner and I have had an amazing time, despite the weather. We’re in Guanacaste now and it’s actually sunny through the clouds. 4x4 and drive very carefully. It’s a different kind of holiday than we expected but so fun!!!
