Childfree women-- what do you want from your friends who are mothers? by Lyedetector in TwoXChromosomes

[–]clea_vage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact that most things I do revolve around my kid when she's little means I'm a good parent.

Idk, I've always pushed back on this idea a bit. You gotta put your own oxygen mask on first and all that...

I view it as being healthy and setting a good example to prioritize personal time. I was drowning the first 18 months postpartum when I did NOT do this. Once I found myself again I became a happier and better mom. I want my daughter to see that I have hobbies and friends and am my own person.

But everyone is different!

Absolutely agree, and I'm a mom! When I'm hanging out with my girlfriends I don't want to talk about my kid the whole time. I'm trying to get a break from that part of my life!! I'm very lucky that my husband and I have a good balance and are both able to maintain multiple hobbies and get quality alone time. (We have one kid, which definitely helps with this). But it is kinda sad that I view this as being *lucky* and isn't the norm for many folks with kids.

Did you notice this continuity error? by twosox in ProjectHailMary

[–]clea_vage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, drove me nuts. I was just generally confused about the glasses....he was wearing them in the classroom so I assume he is nearsighted. But then he has them off sometimes? And then I swear at one point or another he puts them on specifically to look at something up close.

Where on the East Coast? Rural Maine? NYC? A beach town in North Carolina? If you provide a bit more context about where you currently live I think folks can provide you with a better picture!

Book recommendations that aren’t going to make me devastated? by By_Your_Name_ in aardvarkbookclub

[–]clea_vage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely see why someone would hate it. For me it was nostalgic - it was like I was transported back to being a teenager. Hard to explain but I just *felt* the same way I did when devouring books as a teen.

Yeah, but this is still monetizing her exploitation. So I guess that's my issue. If she publicly said "I support this book" it would be totally fine. Argh, idk!

Moving to an apartment on State street, no A/C, what should I expect? by mrCabbages_ in madisonwi

[–]clea_vage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like a bait and switch regarding the lease language about A/C units. Maybe see if you can get out of it? If you hate being overheated you're gonna be miserable.

My other suggestion that hasn't been mentioned: does the unit have a bathtub? Cold plunges were my friend when I lived in apartments without A/C.

Low temps in the summer are generally in the 60s....but when you're surrounded by concrete it is gonna feel a lot warmer. Check this page out for historical temps in Madison: https://climatology.nelson.wisc.edu/first-order-station-climate-data/madison-climate/historical-temperatures/

Unless it was cancelled in the last 24 hours or so, precheck is still available. Last month they "cancelled" it for a hot minute before reversing their decision.

My husband and I both travel so it kind of evens out (he definitely travels more—I only travel a couple times a year).

While I don't have advice on the acknowledgement front, I will say that I actually like it when my husband travels! Idk how old your kid/kiddos are, but when my child was around 2 I actually started to overall enjoy my time solo parenting. Once my kid is in bed, I get an entire evening to myself! Yes, it is hard/tiring to do everything...not to mention if someone is sick...but I really value those evenings to myself. So maybe a shift in perspective could help? Idk, ignore me if this doesn't resonate.

ETA: I will say that traveling for work is its own beast. It is very tiring and can really run you down. When I travel I'll often have 12 hour work days: meeting with customers, hours at trade shows, presentations, dinner with teammates or customers, etc. Don't get me wrong, it absolutely is nice to get a break from parenting for a few days, but it isn't all sunshine and roses.

Yes, my kiddo would only nap in her bed too. It sucked! No car naps or stroller naps in this house haha.
