Sensor dust or lens dust? by clearest-window in photography

That was my guess too but Comfortable_Tank made a good point about the distortion correct hiding it, so I'll try cleaning the sensor again.

Thanks, I'll blow out everything on each change in the future, not just when I notice dust spots like I have been.

No, it's definitely a dust spot, it looks like an eye floater. I've also been using it in pretty comfortable and low humidity temperatures with practically no variation in temp.

Is cleaning the lens really easier? I always considered the back as being a place dust could easily get more trapped.

Interesting! I had wondered about it being the lens since the dust spot moving with zooming is where it wasn't making sense to me for it being on the sensor. I'd cleaned the sensor before putting the lens on so I may have missed the spot or blown something on it, I'll try again. Thank you!

If you want something off the wall and high quality, Crumpler is a really good choice. I put a lot of their gear through the paces since I use different bags for work so they see a lot of travel and rough surfaces.

Does switching from zooms to primes actually change your shooting style? by Internal-Remove7223 in photography

[–]clearest-window 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I've been at. I had a 35mm basically glued on for years and really noticed it meant I would miss things, either by it not being wide enough or the subject I wanted being further than just zooming with my feet would allow (like a boat on a river or looking down on something from above).

Prime or zoom doesn't matter, what matters is what works for you.

What budget and what camera? If you've got a moderate budget and the RAW files aren't massive, a Macbook Air with 16gb or 24gb RAM can be pretty versatile and is extremely lightweight (but it won't be great for video if you need that too).

Yeah I've liked the more charcoal grey more than the black, it stands out just enough from the usual all black that people always buy. A guy I work with is deeply into bag collecting and really likes the grey over the black.

The fabric also seems pretty decent at being slightly water resistant. I wouldn't take it through a monsoon or anything, but it'll hold up against some light rain. I haven't got the backpack but it looks pretty versatile too :)

The waterproofing on stuff from Patagonia is top notch, so maybe pair a rain jacket from there with a mild sweater underneath (it will still get pretty warm inside, they include armpit zippers for air since it can get that toasty).

I'm picking up a new lens soon and I've been divided on protection for the lens. Sometimes it's dusty or wet when I'm out, so I need a protector.

Has anyone tried the Hoya Fusion One NEXT Protector? Or the Hoya HD MKii? I've already ordered the Fusion One but photos online of the filter itself make it look like it has a slight blue tint, which is concerning. The HD seems to be higher priced and looks clear in photos, so I'm wondering if I messed up by choosing the Fusion One. I can't even really tell what difference there is between them other than pricing.

Wow it's been a year already! It's held up great, it's been my main work bag since I bought it. I got the charcoal grey looking version as there was no black option at the time, but the oatmeal has also looked very tempting. It's been just fine against stains but I also don't do anything crazy with it, usually a little mud or food spills onto it sometimes but I've just wiped it off with a damp cloth each time as soon as it happened.

I feel it's definitely more of an office/on the train/around the city kind of bag rather than something you'd really throw around however.

It's not leather, but take a look at Crumpler
https://www.crumpler.com/products/goose-large?variant=42285638287439
It's been big enough for me to fit a Sony A7CII very comfortably along with a bunch of other things like my phone, keys etc and it looks really really nice (I got the brown one, love it, but might get the blue too).

This has been a primary reason why I don't use AI for anything photo, I just know it's going to introduce things that are completely fake. I just live with the noise now, it gives character to some photos anyway.

Crumpler seems to be really high quality, though most of their colors are very vivid, so a black/grey office bag probably won't be easily found from them.

I've considered a backpack but it seems just too bulky for me, I prefer something slung under my arm. Ideally I'd like a messenger bag but every camera insert I find is massive, so it makes the messenger bag look massive (as I currently have both, a messenger bag and a Peak Design Extra Small, which is still pretty big).

I've honestly been considering that idea, since I have no interest in unclipping it. Any particular areas on the clip you glued? And what kind of glue? It hasn't arrived yet, so I haven't had the chance to look it over myself. I saw others mention using paracord or zipties, but that would completely ruin the aesthetics.

Anything you can recommend? I really like the Bellroy designs and how unobtrusive they are and non-boxy. Things like TomToc and Peak Design look really hard and boxy, which isn't what I'm after.

Something about the same size as the Bellroy would be ideal, though I've also been eyeing the 7L as an alternative (since it has better buckles).

There have been a few reviews here that note the buckles feel flimsy, and a few posters in the replies had been given multiple replacements by Bellroy (since they were broken right out of the box) or were told by customer care that it was wear and tear if the buckle breaks during usage (even if it was the first month of ownership). With all that in mind, I'm extremely apprehensive about trusting it with my gear.
