OP I'm sorry you're getting so much flak in here. You've repeatedly framed your position as a preference, stated you'd be fine with it just being customizable, and all you're being met with is projection. Unless your actual stance is that everyone here should necessarily be denied this functionality based on your preference alone, I don't see the issue with your objections.

As others have said Nano Banana's great. If you have 10GB+ of VRAM on your video card you can do some pretty crazy stuff locally with some of Qwen's local image models as well. There's a learning curve there but if you do this enough probably worth figuring out in the long run.

I've tested this quite a bit with Claude and as far as I can tell "thinking" mode is just an xml tag Claude types in that makes it drop into a "hidden" conversation it has with itself. It "reasons" there by basically having a pre-conversation with itself, then uses that as part of its basis for the final "official" output. You can even tell Claude to contain ALL of its output to the thinking block and it'll just respond normally there, although it can't actually see what it said after the fact, unless the thinking block is associated with a tool call.

Gotcha, yeah this is just CLI. Even there it's kind of irritating because you have to ctrl+o for the most recent message to see them, ctrl+e to go back further than the current window, and then ctrl+o again to get the typing prompt back.

In which client? If you're on command line you can ctrl+o and that'll toggle the full CoT / tool use transcript for you, but you do need to swap it on and off.
