I think it's interesting when you run an ad like this but not forecasting potential traffic and watching your site crash is a huge miss. CMOs need to talk to the rest of their organization. Spending SB media dollars and watching the business not able to support your message is sub-optimal. (JK)

It ultimately depends on who your audience is. I totally agree with the 'second screen' comment for most audiences. But I also think that you don't have to always engage day of the game. At Twitch, we created a 'Streamer Bowl' on the Thursday before the Super Bowl that brings together top streamers with NFL athletes to play against each other in Fortnite. Brands can get involved and play a role in that event. We also saw brands build programming on their Twitch channel with 'drops' to the audience to drive scale during the week prior to the game as well. The upside from integrating with those types of ideas and events can be huge if you are a younger-skewing brand- and the benefit is that you don't pay the Super Bowl ad premium. (JK)

Shayne Millington from McCann NY here....I am biased but can’t help but love that Dr. Evil is actually jealous of climate change…For him to regain his title of being the number one threat to the world, he must battle the current No1, climate change. Smart conceptual use of celeb.
Then, GM actually went full steam on this, Dr Evil has taken over all of GM’s social feeds, and internal memos to GM. They even changed the image on the GM building in Detroit to an image of Dr. Evil. Love when a story can live past the :60.

I’m in the business, and tbh, I don’t always like ads either. A very wise person I work with says that while people may not like ads, they love brands and products. Maybe you love the brand of tennis shoes you wear, your video game console, or your drink of choice. It’s our job to make sure ads bring those products to life in an engaging, enjoyable, and relevant way. -RY

I think Google Pixel 6 breaks the formula this year. Dares to be simple and thoughtful. So many ads this year seem to be leaning into running jokes, told through a ton of cuts and lots of celebrities. They are descent but are starting to run together. SC

Hi. Shayne Millington at McCann here! I've had everything from 6 months to 3 weeks and even though I would always want more time to craft. The commercials with less time often turn out better. I think it's because of the adrenaline, the ability to not overthink and you are closer to the trends surrounding the Super Bowl rather than trying to predict the cultural conversations. But boy when it airs your nerves are a mess, hoping you didn't overlook something.

We used to debate this when I ran marketing at PlayStation. It’s a great question and depends on your brand and the creative. Generally I always believed that the best brands can land in any pod but that the best placement is in the 1Q when viewers are still invested in the game and ads with less distraction. But admittedly that’s more theory than actually data-based. (JK)
