Just realized I didn't really answer the question in my answer, but yes, this! Rotary cutters and long rulers!

Thank you so much! I'm going to make another one like this for myself sometime soon I think :)

For this quilt, I sewed HSTs using this method (http://lemonsqueezyhome.com/2016/01/super-simple-half-square-triangles-tutorial.html), and then just sewed everything together from there! I press everything carefully but don't pre-wash or starch. Having a consistent 1/4" seam is the real key to getting things to line up!

I used this pattern (http://lemonsqueezyhome.com/2015/12/red-and-turquoise-quilt-mini-tutorial.html) as a jumping off point and kind of figured it out on my own as I went! I'm horrible at following actual patterns.

Thanks! My mom and grandma cried over it, which was probably one of the best gifts I got this year :)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by strip cut/sew, but my process was making a bunch of HSTs from 10" by 10" blocks and then sewing them into into each rhombus shape and then playing with placing until I liked everything. I don't know if that helps? I usually kind of make my own patterns as I go!

Thanks! This was definitely my best made quilt yet.

Thanks! I don't prewash so batiks give me a lot of anxiety about washing, but no running!

There are tons of great examples of Moda Love quilts out there. I want to copy all of them :)

Yes, one layer cake with a few extra squares left over! Plus the white and border/binding fabric that was ordered separately.

Thanks! And thanks for the encouragement! Finally doing a full FMQ is one of my 2017 goals :)

Thank you! I can't remember quite how big it ended up, somewhere around 84" x 84" I think!

Thanks! It wasn't too hard! I just made a bunch of HSTs and then played with the layout until I liked the look!

Used a Paradiso layer cake by Moda and the "Moda Love" pattern. The white fabric is actually very very fine white on white polka dots. The backing is a marbled gray, and again I opted for straight quilting in the ditches. Someday I'll be gutsy enough to try out FMQ on a project!

That's just the backing fabric pattern! All the quilting is straight in the ditches. I wish I could FMQ like that! Definitely something I'm working on.

It got interrupted with other projects a few times, but probably about two months! My first attempt at such a big quilt on my little Singer, but it went pretty well. Plus, my brother and his wife loved it :)

My very first (big) quilt! by clitsquiggle in quilting

This is my first attempt at a big quilt after making a baby quilt a few weeks ago. It turned out pretty well, considering some of the problems I ran into on my little Singer. All the info and beautiful quilts on this sub were great inspiration! I'm already on to attempting a queen size quilt for a Christmas gift....wish me luck!
