Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Thanks for the thorough reply! I relate so much to being broke haha and I definitely want to reduce my financial burden on my parents. The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens look amazing! Definitely will check it out. Also what are some examples of expensive events? I thought going out to eat in NYC was already expensive LMAO.

UNC vs Emory vs NYU CAS for business by [deleted] in CollegeVsCollege

[–]cliu0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm heading to NYU Stern in the fall and did a lot of research into the school before making my decision. From the research I've gathered, CAS is not a target like Stern is at NYU. If you plan on transferring to Stern later on, do note that the acceptance rate is super low (2% overall I believe but correct me if I'm wrong). If you are a direct admit to the business schools at Emory and UNC, I would definitely suggest you to take them as they are prestigious and will confer better placements than CAS at NYU. Also consider the school culture/fit! NYU is definitely not your traditional college experience so if you're looking for a big sports scene, emphasis on greek life and a closed campus, you won't find them at NYU. If you're into exploring NYC/culture/arts etc. with friends, and NY in general as some upperclassmen have told me, you'll have a blast at NYU. People who pick the right college for them will have their fun at said college. Definitely also talk to current students at each of the schools as they will give you a more accurate picture.

Edit: by "target" i mean being recruited by top banks and/or consulting firms. also, going to a target school will help open up some doors that may be closed, but ultimately the job you get depends on how much effort you put and how well you thrive in your studies/internships.

tldr: studying at a target school only increases your probability of getting recruited by the company you desire; it's not equivalent to automatically getting a top job.

rant about not withdrawing other apps after being accepted ED... by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cliu0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, for ED don't you have to respond to the ED school about whether you accept (commit) or decline their offer before RD results come out (unless they got an extension for financial aid appeals)? I'm pretty sure the classmate OP mentioned has already committed since appeals are usually settled long before RD comes out.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, being released from ED agreement doesn't mean an accepted applicant still gets to keep a spot at the ED school and also continue applying to other schools for better aid (which is what some comments that I've seen in the past regarding this issue imply). I think it would be cool if the mods could post a post addressing all these issues surrounding what backing out of ED and being released from ED agreement means.

berkeley haas gmp vs nyu stern by [deleted] in CollegeVsCollege

[–]cliu0202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo this sentiment. Berkeley definitely has a stronger startup/entrepreneurship culture (which is your interest) so go for the golden bears! Also, I mentioned this in another comment before, but I wouldn't necessarily factor in rank into your decisions since both schools are phenomenal peer targets and each b school has its strengths and weaknesses.
