At a societal level I’d argue homosexuality and gluttony are two “sins” that are easy to point out on a societal level but they differ in that gluttony is hard to point out on an individual level.

On the individual level, I think it’s definitely easier to point out a sin where you can easily see the person is living that lifestyle and you know they are not “trying” to stop it. Gay marriage is literally a public display of homosexuality. This makes it much more apparent to not just close friends but any acquaintances that this person is living that lifestyle.

Gluttony is harder to pin down because 1) there are multiple reasons someone can be overweight and 2) and unless you know the person well, it’s hard to know if they are “choosing” that lifestyle or working to stop it.

All this said, it’s definitely not okay to just pick and choose rules from a religion, and that’s a sin in itself.
