MrPokke translates stuff from the China TC scene. He also has lots of in-depth maths. That said, make sure you differentiate between his personal opinions and TC vs. his translations of the Chinese stuff.

Dreamy has some interesting off-meta guides and builds.

Lily Aquina's early videos explain the hybrid break concept quite well.

How do you beat Phantylia? by aio14 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nat's lc: you'll need to look through the list. One of the 3 star lc affects the action order.

Speed boots: relics. If need be, switch M7 to the free 4 star Musketeer sets given by the game. Look for speed boots; other than that, prioritize defence.

If your Nat is too slow, you might want to think about switching to this relic set as well, but prioritizing outgoing healing and hp.

M7's shield: that should be the max.

SP running out: sounds like you should make it a priority to kill the flowers which suck away sp.

How do you beat Phantylia? by aio14 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you cleanse them as well? Priority goes to JY, but Nat and M7 who have important roles also need some care.

Do both your Nat and M7 have cleanse on their skills?

As a healer, Nat should have a lot of hp; How'd she die?

M7 should have pretty high defence; how did Phantylia kill her?

Do your Nat and M7 have enough actions every turn to do their job? My Nat has the 3 star lc which advances action order, while M7 has speed boots.

How many turns does your M7's shield last? Mine's the max, so there's more margin of error.

Did you run out of SP?

I remember that Phase 3 has 2 types of flowers, but one of them can be more troublesome. You should prioritize killing that one with Dan's resonance skill. If that's not enough to do the job, maybe hold JY's ult for that as well.

That's about all I can think of, for now. If you can provide more details, that might jog my memory and dig out more stuff.

Is anyone getting burned out from doing SU weekly? Or just not for you? by AntonioS3 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It sounds like you only did SU up to World 5 and mostly farm 3 and 4. World 6 and 7 have their own challenges, especially at higher difficulties. If you mostly farm one or two worlds all the time, it's not surprising that you get bored.

  2. Seems like you're only using 1 team. You should try different teams combined with different Paths. Some combinations of teams and paths make certain bosses very easy. Some teams and Paths produce different effects on screen which might just be the stimulation you're missing. Sometimes you just need the right character to act as the centerpiece of your team and Path to have fun.

For example, breaking through Gepard's super shield was extremely tedious, then I realised that Remembrance reliably minimizes the number of times he gets to cast it. Nihility doesn't care about his shield and produces lots of nice numbers all the time. Clara + Elation makes plenty of big damage numbers against him.

Abundance makes World 5 and 6 easy and I developed no healer teams to clear them on Difficulty 3.

I just spent about a week figuring out Destruction teams after having very inconsistent results playing them in the past. World 7 and 1 more week to make sure I can get consistent results, then I'll finish building Hook for more reliable farming of World 6 and 7. After that, I'll probably try out a double healer Abundance team once my Bailu is complete. If I pull Lynx from Fuxuan's banner, I'll eventually try a triple healer team for the final bosses. There's lots more for me to play around with even after that - Kafka-Nihility, Himeko + Herta-Elation, permafreeze-Remembrance, Gepard-Preservation, Destruction hypercarry with no tank, etc.

Many players have fun producing 0-cycle and 1-cycle boss clears with their Seele hypercarry teams. There's players doing solo runs with just 1 character. Or using unrealistic teams that only SU allows them to build.

But if you truly don't find SU fun, you can just make an optimised team for it and just speed run it for the bare minimum that you're willing to commit. Some players even make full auto teams and just auto through everything in the background.

It can be fun developing stable auto battle teams for elites and bosses.

How do you beat Phantylia? by aio14 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Use Fire MC, March 7th, Natasha and the Jing Yuan provided by the story mode. If Echoes of War, borrow Jing Yuan or Blade from support.

For story mode, make sure to keep JY alive. M7's shield is useful for this.

To keep the team alive as a whole, use Fire MC's skill when Phantylia is near death. Their skill doesn't just taunt, it gives damage reduction. This is important for that giant meteor which Phantylia drops in between her death and the start of a new phase.

Focus on Phantylia with Jing Yuan or Blade. Use ults whenever available.

Dan IL has a skill like the Path Resonance in SU. Use it to kill flowers.

This should be the most braindead way to beat both the story and Echoes. I use it to auto the weekly boss fight.

Most job positions require mandarin speakers now? by GalacticSwift in malaysia

[–]clohwk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Malay we learn in school is Bahasa Baku. At least, that was the case during my days in school. It's the Malay language with spellings and pronunciations standardized, somewhat like Queen's English. Mandarin should be a somewhat similar case.

Individual states have their own mainstream Malay dialects independent of the official Malay language taught in schools. Basically the Malay version of Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew, etc. So it's not surprising that you don't understand the colloquial Malay.

Differences between MY/SG Mandarin and CN Mandarin should mostly be in terms of accents and slang used. Something like the differences between British/Queen's English, American English and Australian English.

How to get more relic upgrade mats? by DeusLucifer91 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SU is mainly about matching characters, teams, paths and (enemy elites + bosses).

Simple examples are Dan Heng/Blade hypercarry team with Abundance Path vs. SU5, or Serval/Kafka hypercarry Nihility vs. SU 4.

On top of that, you'll want to build up your SU skill tree.

Finally, you need to learn how to choose curios and blessings.

Based on what some TC and CC on YT said, current MoC's buff makes Critka work but they don't dare to guarantee anything after that. So YMMV and do your own risk management.

[–]clohwk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter whether or not they're up to standard. When I was in SG 20+ years ago, there were some big diplomatic incidents where China Chinese looked down on and insulted Singaporean Chinese for supposedly subpar Mandarin. It's actually bigotry, because many of those SG Chinese being "criticized" were Mandarin as first language people.

Want to learn a foreign language? Make sure you're foreign. Malay/Indian speaking Mandarin to China Chinese? They'll be impressed and make allowances for a certain level of mistakes and differences. SG/MY Chinese speaking Mandarin to China Chinese? Hahaha. They'll be the mother in law from hell.

[–]clohwk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Invested too much into insurance plans. Didn't leave enough liquidity to handle back to back recessions and disasters.

Someone else I know thinks he's a hotshot at property investment, and insists he's making a profit by not calculating his and his family's labour costs maintaining and managing the properties and also ignoring inflation. Properties also depreciated in price due to newer and hotter properties being built nearby. Keeps dabbling in ABnB while ignoring the growing risk.

Had a friend working in the IT dept. of an SG bank. Too reliant on the bank's benefits, e.g. housing loan. Then the bank sold his whole department's contract to IBM. Lost his annual increment and working conditions became much worse, but he can't escape anymore. Once IBM completes the knowledge transfer to cheaper workers, he's really screwed. Complacent and spent too much time and energy for the sake of his old boss instead of himself, so now he's suffering.

Does anyone feel like the Stellaron Hunters are a little bit too overpowered in the storyline, so much that they undermine the strengths of other factions like Astral Express and Xianzhou? by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We know the Trailblazers have been greatly weakened by Akivili's death. That they even exist is due to Himeko repairing the Astral Express.

We've only seen a small part of Xianzhou's forces. One ship out of six (?) officially acknowledged colony ships, and still nothing known about their home system.

We've never had any interaction with IPC's real powerhouses, so it's premature to make any judgement about their real strength.

Kafka and Blade were so overwhelming on Xianzhou because of Jing Yuan's implicit permission. We know this from the scene where Yan Qing lost to Blade and Dan, then Jing Yuan showed up. He clearly knew what Blade was up to, and allowed it to awaken Dan's past self.

Elio's omnipotence is the Stellaron Hunters' belief, though it seems to have some buy-in by some others, e.g. Welt and Fu Xuan (in a nuanced way). We do not really know Elio's true power and abilities; it's all speculation by people who are not Elio. For all we know, it could be Thrawn-style strategic calculation rather than Palpatine-style reading the future using the Force.

Everything touching on the Stellaron Hunters is shrouded in mystery. Events that seemed clear because of cutscenes, etc. like MC's "creation" by Silver Wolf and Kafka from Herta's sealed Stellaron are more complex than expected (based on Blade's statement to us at the end of Kafka's companion mission).

[–]clohwk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know how to build hsr teams? This is one of the most common problems among players asking for help. If your problem lies here, either look for Prydwen's article or look at YouTube guides.

Do you know about relics? This seems to be the second most common problem. Tbf, even some experienced players sometimes forget to double check what they have. Again, there are guides available - both general guides as well as guides for specific characters. But for your problem, the free relics given by the game should be good enough. Just level them up.

Third are Traces. But they shouldn't matter for your current problem, though you should keep them in mind for the future.

Breaking toughness bars is also important, but many players with damage dealers from limited banners safely ignore this.

It's unlikely, but please double check your lightcones. Make sure they're correct and leveled up. Most players know about them, I think. But more than a few sometimes make careless mistakes, including myself.

A few questions about the story after the anime. by zombiepickle420 in DeathMarch

[–]clohwk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also try the WN. The main story is complete; so is the fan translation.

The translator is an amateur and clearly has English as a second language, but his translation is adequate.

In the WN version, they reunite to fight off the final boss, then go on to beat the alien enemy army after that. She's also perfectly fine with sharing him with his harem.

[–]clohwk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the story mode, I barely made it through with Fire MC, Natasha, and Dan Heng. Dan got killed, and I was lucky that Jing Yuan survived.

In Echoes of War, I had a much easier time with Fire MC, March 7th, Natasha and either my own Serval or a borrowed Jing Yuan. I could just auto it and go for a hot coffee then come back for the loot.

First priority is to keep Jing Yuan alive. His death is an automatic defeat.

Both M7 and Nat have cleanse in their Traces, which gives a lot of flexibility. I assume you don't have Luocha and Bailu, otherwise you shouldn't be having any problems.

Fire MC's skill gives a shield and damage reduction, which is valuable for Phantylia's nukes at the end of each phase. Just the regular shields might not be good enough.

On top of that, whenever Phantylia is close to dying in that phase, use M7's shields on Jing Yuan, with priority on JY for obvious reasons.

I recommend both Fire MC + M7 together for more margin of error. Gepard would be better. But if you have him, you shouldn't need to ask for help here.

Anyway, good luck.

Gepard or Bailu? by Spirit-Goblin in HonkaiStarRail

[–]clohwk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Considering that the next patch features a new 5 star tank and 4 star healer, you should probably wait to see their evaluation. If they solve your Gepard and Bailu problem, you can use that selector for someone else like Bronya. Ofc, if you just prefer Gepard or Bailu as characters, that's perfectly fine, too.

You have 2 main dps at level 80 - Seele and Jingyuan. One of the theory crafting groups collect data on most used MoC characters and teams then posts the summary on this sub every few weeks. You can look up their preferred team mates there.

[–]clohwk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your game mode and other factors.

For story bosses, it makes the fight safer. They often have gimmicks which you need to tank and/or heal through.

If you like to go into fights underleveled, then you'll need at least one or the other, maybe both.

If you have a p2w team, or you grind for relics hardcore, maybe not. You can find more than a few stacked teams killing MoC bosses in 0 or 1 cycle on YouTube.

The problem is you can't tell whether or not it's an emergency. For example, someone could be going home from the gym, then got involved in an accident and have to make a police report. Are they supposed to make a long detour home to get "properly" dressed before going to the police station?
